NEW YORK — Just in time for the latest installment of the “Star Wars” movie, fans bid thousands of dollars on hundreds of rare and original collectibles associated with the space odyssey series at a New York City auction.
Sotheby’s held an online-only sale Friday that brought in more than $500,000.
The 175 lots included more than 600 action figures from the collection of Japanese fashion designer and entrepreneur NIGO.
A set of seven mini action figures from “The Empire Strikes Back” fetched $32,500.
Two “Power of the Force” coin sets that were only available on special request from the manufacturer drew $27,500.
A Luke Skywalker figurine with double telescoping lightsaber sold for $25,000, exceeding a presale estimate of $12,000 to $18,000.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” premiers next week.
