Volunteer: Help with food event

Volunteers and donations of silent auction items or professionally made desserts are needed for Village Community Services’ Taste of Decadence: Space 2010 fundraiser on May 22.

The event is at the Stillaguamish Senior Center, 18308 Smokey Point Blvd., in Arlington.

Volunteers are needed for two hours or more between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m.

Proceeds from the annual event help Snohomish County residents who have disabilities.

Apply: Interim council member

Anyone who has been a resident of Monroe for one year is eligible to apply to be an interim city council member.

Those interested in serving their community as a council member must submit a letter declaring their interest and reasons for it along with background information indicating what skills, experience and concerns they would bring to the council.

The letter must be received by noon on May 25 at Monroe City Hall, 806 W. Main Street in Monroe.

Celebrate: Salvation Army Week event

The Salvation Army in Marysville will hand out free coffee and freshly made doughnuts from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Marysville Mall at State Avenue and Third Street.

This is the Salvation Army’s way of celebrating National Salvation Army Week.

The Salvation Army first provided doughnuts to Allied troops during World War II using improvised ingredients and equipment. Even helmets were drafted as mixing bowls.

Use: Free vacation house check

People who are going on vacation this summer can sign up at the Lynnwood Police Department for free vacation house checks.

Those who request the service will be asked to fill out a sheet of information at the police station, 19321 44th Ave. W, Lynnwood.

The Volunteers in Public Safety check on all houses in the city limits of Lynnwood registered for vacation house checks. The VIPS are trained on the police radio to call an officer if they hear or see anything suspicious.

Donate: Lions Club White Cane Days

The Mukilteo Lions Club will host its annual White Cane Days on Saturday.

Lions Clubs sponsor White Cane Days to gather support and raise funds to help conquer blindness. Proceeds collected benefit the Lions Eye Bank and the Lions Sight Conservation Foundations.

Monetary donations, used eyeglasses and used hearing aides can be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Michael’s Espresso stand in the Everett Mall, 1402 SE Everett Mall Way in Everett. Michael’s Espresso is next to the Macy’s mall entrance.

Proceeds from selected espresso drinks will also support the projects of White Canes Days.
