Apply: Garden club scholarship offered

The Floretum Garden Club of Edmonds is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a 2010 high school graduate, community college student or individual planning a career in a horticultural field.

The applicant must be a legal resident with a 3.25 grade point or higher. A scholarship winner will be selected based on interest in horticulture, floral design, landscape design, botany, forestry or a related field; financial need and activities and achievements in school and community.

The recipient may attend any community college, college or university in Washington state. The deadline for all applications is May 7.

Scholarship application forms are available from school scholarship offices, the horticulture department, or by contacting the Floretum Garden Club’s Scholarship Committee.

Register: Spring at Camp Killoqua

Camp Killoqua offers Spring Break Day Camp for children in kindergarten through eighth grade. The camp, operated by Camp Fire USA Snohomish County Council, offers programs for youths, including summer resident and day camps, outdoor education, leadership and retreat space.

Spring sessions are March 29 through April 2 and April 5 through 9.

Fees are $190 per week. Bus transportation is available.

Volunteer: Taste of Decadence, May 22

Volunteers and donations of silent auction items or professionally made desserts are needed for Village Community Services’ annual Taste of Decadence event on May 22. The event is located at the Stillaguamish Senior Center Banquet Hall, 18308 Smokey Point Blvd., Arlington.

Volunteers are needed for 2 hours or more between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. for decorating and set up, the silent auction, registration, dessert dash and clean up.

Donate: Clothes for Kids needs items

Clothes For Kids in Lynnwood is asking residents who are doing spring cleaning to consider making a donation of new or gently used children’s clothes.

Clothes For Kids provides fall and spring wardrobes, at no cost to families, in a retail store environment. Donations of boys clothing items in sizes 4 to 16 are especially needed.

Learn: Citizens Academy starts soon

The Mountlake Terrace Police Department will soon start its Police Citizens Academy. The free 12-week program meets on Wednesdays and begins April 14 and runs through June 30 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Mountlake Terrace Library. 23300 58th Ave. W.

The deadline to apply for the Police Citizens Academy is 5 p.m. on March 31. Space is limited to the first 30 people accepted.

Training sessions include information and demonstrations by K-9, SWAT, narcotics, records, evidence handling, and a ride-along with an officer.

Applicants must be willing to sign a waiver authorizing a background check for acceptance into the program.
