Do Something 101, a nonprofit effort to provide school supplies to children from low-income families, is encouraging Snohomish County teens to help with an effort run by the Boys &Girls Clubs of Snohomish County.
Volunteers are asked to collect school supplies in their neighborhoods and then drop them off at Staples stores. Boys &Girls Clubs then plan to distribute the supplies to disadvantaged youth.

Donate: Firefighters to collect for MDA
Lake Stevens firefighters plan to be out in the city on Friday and Saturday with boots in hand, as they kick off the annual Fill-the-Boot fundraising campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Firefighters will stand at the intersections of Market Place and 91st Avenue NE, and Main Street and 20th Street NE in downtown Lake Stevens, asking motorists to drop donations into their boots.
Lake Stevens Fire Department staff have volunteered many years for the Fill-the-Boot campaign. Money raised during the street-side campaign goes to support research and services for those with muscle-deteriorating diseases

Volunteer: Spartina removal work day

Volunteers are invited to help remove the invasive plant spartina at the 4,122-acre preserve, where the Stillaguamish River empties into the bay and creates a biologically rich area of saltwater marshes and tidal mudflats.
The work party, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 8, will involve a short boat ride to a sandy area where spartina seedlings can easily be pulled by hand.
