Volunteer: Help promote tourism

The Everett Visitor Information Center needs enthusiastic “travel counselors” to help promote Everett and Snohomish County.

Volunteers are needed for flexible shifts of three hours a week, Mondays through Saturdays. Knowledge of Everett and the surrounding area is helpful but not required. The center is at Comcast Arena, 2000 Hewitt Ave., Everett.

Dance: Benefit for Kamiak orchestra

A benefit dance for the Kamiak High School Orchestra promises to transform you to Vienna for the night.

The ball is designed to raise money for the school orchestra’s trip to Spain in April.

For those who don’t know how to waltz, Everett’s Arthur Murray Dance Studio will offer complimentary ballroom dance lessons from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Kamiak Commons, followed by dancing to a live orchestra from 7 to 9 p.m. Kamiak High School is at 10801 Harbour Pointe Blvd., Mukilteo.

The community is encouraged to attend. Attire is dressy casual to formal. Admission is $5 for students and senior citizens, $10 for adults. Tickets are available at the door or in advance by e-mailing viennaball@kamiakarts.org.

Comment: Speak out on development

Edmonds officials want to hear the public’s ideas for revamping the commercial areas of Westgate and Five Corners.

Edmonds has been working with the University of Washington’s College of Built Environments to create plans for potential development of the two neighborhoods.

A meeting about Westgate is scheduled for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 25 at City Hall’s third-floor Brackett Room, 121 Fifth Ave. N.

A meeting about Five Corners is scheduled for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 26 at the Plaza Room above the Edmonds Library, 650 Main St.

Apply: Lynnwood police volunteers

There’s still time to apply to be a Lynnwood police citizen patrol volunteer.

Patrol volunteers bike around shopping areas, direct traffic at car accidents, write parking citations and more.

Volunteers must be reasonably fit, have a good driving record and be able to pass a background check. Most members work at least 10 hours a month, and uniforms and gear are provided.

The deadline for applications is tomorrow.
