Honor: Event for Vietnam War’s 50th

American Legion Post 234 presents a Vietnam War 50th anniversary commemoration event, “RVN Revisited: Welcome Home Vets,” 2-5 p.m. Nov. 8 at 22909 56th Ave. W, Mountlake Terrace.

Join Vietnam War and era veterans for a spaghetti buffet dinner with special guest speakers, Vietnam War video, historical displays, music, a raffle and prizes.

Veterans and their families from all military branches and eras of service are welcome to attend as is the general public. Admission is $5 per person.

Retire: Used flags get proper treatment

The Marysville American Legion Post 178 will hold a flag retirement ceremony, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 14 at Jennings Memorial Park, 6915 Armar Road. People can bring flags for proper disposal, or observe the process.

Donations for the food bank also are encouraged.

Create: Teens invited to make art

Teens are invited to “Give Thanks” with artist Anna Mastronardi Novak at the next Schack Art Center Teen Night, 6-8 p.m. Nov. 12.

A Thanksgiving-inspired project is just one of the hands-on art activities planned for the event, which will also feature artists Jules Anslow, Bonnie AuBuchon and Colleen Temple.

This free evening of creative play, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Everett, is intended for youth ages 13-18. More Teen Nights are planned Dec. 10, Feb. 11, March 17, April 14 and May 26.

Applaud: Concert supports band

Voices of the Village and The Pin Drops perform their annual all-ages Voices Among Us concert, 7-9 p.m. Nov. 14 at Northwest Music Hall, 1402 SE Everett Mall Way, in the mall next to Macy’s.

Admission is a suggested donation of $10. The event is supported by Macy’s and the Rotary Club of Arlington. Proceeds help fund the Village Community Services band.

Snap: Waterfowl photo contest

The Adopt A Stream Foundation is in the process of producing interpretive signs that will be placed along the new Elevated Nature Walk at the Northwest Stream Center. One of the stopping points along the half-mile route is a called the Waterfowl Overlook.

Spotted at the overlook: wood duck, goldeneye, hooded merganser, American wigeon, great blue heron, green-backed heron, green-winged teal, mallard, gadwall, ring-necked duck, bufflehead, Canada goose, ruddy duck, and belted kingfisher.

The foundation is holding a contest. Submit your best photo of a waterfowl male-female pair, of the types seen at the Overlook, by Nov. 22 to aasf@streamkeeper.org (subject line “Waterfowl Photo Contest”).

The best photos will be placed together on an interpretive sign placed next to the Water Fowl Overlook with the photographer’s name.
