Honor: Benefit to help Fallen Heroes Banners
A benefit for the Fallen Heroes Banners of Snohomish County will be held 2-6 p.m. April 25 at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2100, 2711 Oakes Ave., Everett. There will be raffles, food, activities and live music by the Snohomish Sauer-Kraut Band.
The Fallen Heroes Banners feature the names, photos and hometowns of men and women killed during service in the U.S. military. Volunteers carry the large banners at local parades — row after row of faces providing a poignant display of sacrifice and patriotism.

March: A weekend walk for preemies
More than 1,000 walkers from Snohomish County are expected to gather for the annual March for Babies celebration, 9 a.m. Saturday at Langus Riverfront Park, 400 Smith Island Road, Everett. Funds raised by participants benefit March of Dimes, which funds research and programs that aim to end premature birth, birth defects and infant mortality.
Donations and more walkers on the 3.1-mile route are welcome.

University of Puget Sound Dean of Diversity Michael Benitez headlines the annual North Puget Sound Conference on Race, hosted by the Communities of Color Coalition, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. May 2 in Jackson Hall at Everett Community College, 2000 Tower St.
The event — on the theme “Call to Action: We Need Your Voice” — challenges everyone, but especially youth and young adults, to become more aware of race and social justice issues, and to build more inclusive communities. The event includes breakfast and lunch, hip hop spoken word performances, and breakout sessions on self-awareness, community organizing, youth activism and more.
The event is free. Space is limited, and registration is required.

Celebrate: Powwow honors Mother Earth
Edmonds Community College’s Native American Student Association hosts its 30th annual powwow, “Honoring Mother Earth,” May 1-3 in the Seaview gym on the campus at 20000 68th Ave. W., Lynnwood. The powwow celebrates American Indian singing, drumming, dancing and arts and crafts. Dance and drum grand entries start at 7 p.m. May 1; 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. May 2; and 1 p.m. May 3.
This event is free and open to the public. This is a contest powwow; all dancers and drums welcome.

Apply: Scholarship for horticulture student
The Floretum Garden Club of Edmonds offers a $1,500 scholarship to a high school graduate, a community college student or an individual planning a career in a horticultural field. Selection is based on interest in horticulture, floral design, landscape design, botany, forestry or a related field, as well as financial need and other factors. Deadline to apply is May 11.
