Honor: MLK project needs volunteers

Join EarthCorps’ Puget Sound Stewards and the Port of Everett for an MLK Weekend of Service project, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Jan. 17.

Help with restoration efforts at Union Slough in the Snohomish River Estuary. The project site is just north of Everett off the east side of Highway 529 at 37th Street.

Union Slough was created through a dike breach in the Snohomish River estuary in 2001, creating approximately 8 acres of marsh and mudflat habitat. Extensive and diverse saltmarsh vegetation has appeared and spread naturally at the site since 2001, but invasive plants threaten this habitat.

Volunteers must be 16 years old or accompanied by an adult to participate in this event. Sign up online at www.earthcorps.org.
