Sit: Learn to protect harbor seal pups
The Edmonds Seal Sitters plans a volunteer training session at 11 a.m. Aug. 30 in Room 206 of the Frances Anderson Center, 700 Main St., Edmonds. Volunteers will spend 1.5 hours in the classroom, followed by a drill on the Edmonds waterfront. Cost is $5 and includes an I.D. badge.
All ages are welcome, but children must be accompanied by a guardian. Volunteers also should be comfortable talking to the public and be prepared to spend time outdoors in a variety of weather.
The Edmonds Seal Sitter group is part of the NOAA Marine Mammal Stranding Network and works to protect marine mammals that haul-out on the Edmonds shoreline. Most of the animals the group works with are baby harbor seals.
