Learn: How to help during a disaster
Free classes are offered to those who want to learn how to help in their neighborhoods in case of emergency.
Snohomish County Fire District 1 is offering Community Emergency Response Team training starting Tuesday.
Classes are planned for 6 to 10 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, through Oct. 12, at the Fire District 1 Training Center, 12425 Meridian Ave., Everett.
In case of a large-scale disaster, such as an earthquake, people may have to rely on their neighbors for help. During the training, students will learn about basic disaster first aid, search and rescue operations, how to put out small fires and about the psychological effects of disasters.
The class is free but students will need to buy or make a home disaster kit, as well as some personal safety equipment needed to participate in some class activities. Kits will be available for purchase the first night of class.
