Plant: Trees will help fish at local creek
Help the Adopt A Stream Foundation plant 600 trees next to Olaf Strad Creek, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday at Strawberry Fields Park, 6100 152nd St. NE, Marysville.
Ecologist Zach Mallon advises that this little steam flows into Quilceda Creek and to the Snohomish River. There are virtually no trees next to the creek in the park now. The lack of shade causes the water temperature to rise, which hurts salmon and trout in the summer months.
Another 600 trees are scheduled for planting at the creek on Earth Day, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 22.
The trees are paid for with a Washington State Department of Ecology grant that uses funds provided by the Environmental Protection Agency to protect local water quality.
