Fly: Youth flying program in Arlington
The Red-Tailed Hawks Flying Club invites underrepresented youth ages 16-19 to apply for a two-week flying program.
The FLY Program runs July 8-22 at Regal Air at Paine Field. Teens can train to fly solo in an airplane, study for the FAA Private Pilot knowledge exam, learn more about the aerospace industry, compete for scholarships to fund private pilot certification and more.
Prospective cadets must have a B-average GPA and pass an FAA medical exam, among other requirements. Applications are due May 15.

Learn: Police Academy set in Mill Creek
The Mill Creek Police Department will offer a free Citizen Police Academy, to be held 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, from May 17 to July 12, at City Hall North, 15720 Main St.
The course is open to Mill Creek residents, as well as others in surrounding communities, who are at least 18 years old. Space is limited. An application and a background check are required.
Topics include criminal law, K-9, traffic enforcement, patrol procedures and special weapons and tactics, among others.
The long-term goal is to build a Citizens Patrol from select academy participants.

Design: Lynnwood wants cool T-shirts
Love Lynnwood? The city is holding a T-shirt Design Contest to celebrate what folks love about living, working and playing in the city. The winning design (or designs) will be made into T-shirts and showcased at events.
Oh, and there’s a $500 prize.
The contest is open to all. The deadline to submit a design is May 31.

Plant: Nature camp planned for kids
The Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens at Everett’s Legion Park offers a Kids Nature Camp, 10 a.m. to noon June 26-29. Volunteers will help kids learn what plants need to grow and be healthy through nature games, art and science activities, and more.
Cost is $70, $35 for Arboretum members. This is for kids ages 8-10. Space is limited.

Nominate: Know a great teen?
Nominations are being accepted through May 22 for the cities of Sultan and Gold Bar’s annual Mayor’s Youth Achievement Award. The award recognizes the accomplishments of high school-age students who live in the Sultan School District.
The goal of the award is to emphasize the positive achievements of the area’s young people by recognizing those who have distinguished themselves in community service, politics, arts and entertainment, academics, athletics, citizenship or who have overcome obstacles to accomplish their goals.
Nomination forms are available at Sultan and Gold Bar city halls, Sultan Library, the Sultan Visitor Information Center and Sultan High School.
