Listen: Veterans Day concert in Everett

A Veterans Day concert to honor military is set for 7 tonight at First Presbyterian Church of Everett, 2936 Rockefeller Ave. The concert features the church’s chancel and handbell choirs, as well as guest vocalists. Refreshments will follow.

Cosplay: A local ComicCon for teens

Teens are invited to the Sno-Isle ComicCon, a day of booths, panels, gaming, cosplay, live music, fandoms, comics and more, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the Snohomish Library, 311 Maple Ave.

Compete in the costume contest, take pictures in the photo booth and try out virtual reality gaming. Andrew Wahl, from Humanities Washington, will speak and there also will be a panel on cosplaying. Raffle drawings will be held throughout the day, and the first 10 teens to the event get a cool door prize. Evergreen Community Orchestra will be performing throughout the event as well.

The Lake Stevens and Monroe libraries also co-sponsor the event.

Nosh: Turkey dinner in Snohomish

St. Michael Catholic Church holds its annual Turkey Dinner, 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday in the parish’s Large Hall, 1512 Pine Ave., Snohomish. Enjoy turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, a vegetable, rolls, cranberries and homemade pie.

Quiz: Test your Harry Potter knowledge

With famed author J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world returning to big screens next week, Harry Potter-themed events are cropping up all over the place.

In Arlington, fans of all ages are invited to get sorted into houses for a trivia game that’s all Harry Potter, 6:30 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Arlington Library, 135 N Washington Ave. Prizes include a copy of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” and movie tickets for “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”

Create: Make your own gifts at Schack

The nonprofit Schack Art Center in downtown Everett offers a variety of holiday workshops geared at beginners in fused glass, ceramics, painting, stained glass and jewelry making.

Learn to handle a torch as you solder silver stack rings; assemble glass pieces to create snowflakes or wintry creatures to hang on the Christmas tree; or shape clay into a fairy tale-worthy castle.

Classes are available for students as young as age 8. Fees range from $50 to $130.

Enter: Historical Zine Contest being held

The Washington State Library and secretary of state are holding an Historical Zine Contest.

Zines (rhymes with beans) are self-published magazines that give the creator’s point of view on a subject. Contest participants are asked to create a zine about some aspect of Washington history. This contest is open to state residents from fourth grade on up. Adults can enter, too. Entry deadline is Dec. 15.
