EVERETT — With coronavirus restrictions mostly lifted, the state of Washington on Wednesday is officially back to something resembling normal. As we pass that milestone, The Daily Herald will cease reporting numbers for the pandemic on a daily basis.
You will no longer see the “COVID-19 snapshot” of statistics in print, and our frequently updated web story, “What we know: Washington coronavirus outbreak at a glance,” will be frozen in time with today’s numbers.
We launched “What we know” on the HeraldNet website in mid-March 2020. It has amassed hundreds of thousands of page views in the time since. Little did we know we’d be updating it nearly every day for 15 months.
We will, of course, continue to write stories about the coronavirus outbreak. And should the situation change, we might revive these features. But for now, we’ve made the optimistic decision to discontinue them.
