SEATTLE — The daughter of an Orcas Island man says her father was on the flotilla that was raided by Israeli troops.
Kate Schermerhorn says American Embassy officials told her Monday that her father — retired television producer David Schermerhorn — was taken into custody by Israeli officials and is unharmed.
She says her 80-year-old father is an activist with the Free Gaza Movement and has been to Gaza three times.
Israeli commandos rappelled down to the flotilla early Monday, clashing with pro-Palestinian activists in a botched raid that left at least nine passengers dead. The flotilla was sailing to thwart Israel’s blockade of Gaza.
In Seattle, about 100 people gathered Monday at Seattle Center to demonstrate against the raid. Protesters also gathered in Tacoma.
