SALEM, Ore. — Gov. Kate Brown says Oregon will welcome Syrian refugees.
Brown was silent on the topic Monday as governors throughout the U.S. expressed their views on the topic after the terrorist attacks in Paris. On Tuesday, Brown announced on Twitter that Oregon will accept refugees.
She wrote that the refugees seek safe haven and Oregon will continue to open the doors of opportunity to them.
Brown followed with another tweet that said: “The words on the Statue of Liberty apply in Oregon just as they do in every other state.”
The U.S. has accepted roughly 2,500 Syrians since the civil war started, about half are children. Only about 2 percent are single men of combat age.
