VANCOUVER, Wash. — Authorities say the body of a Portland, Oregon, hiker has been found at the bottom of a waterfall in north Skamania County, Washington.
A Vancouver, Washington, man told Skamania County sheriff’s officers he was hiking with a friend, 39-year-old Shawn Kenline of Portland, along a tributary of the Washougal River when they became separated Sunday afternoon. The friend, Thomas Pelham, says the two had stopped to take photos when Kenline vanished. The friend activated an emergency locator beacon.
A search began and divers found Kenline’s body on Monday. Skamania County sheriff’s Chief Criminal Deputy Patrick Bond said divers found the man submerged in 11 feet of water beneath Prospector Creek Falls.
The Clark County medical examiner’s office will determine a cause of death.
