HILLSBORO, Ore. — A young Oregon man who was naked when he attacked a hunter on a remote hilltop has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Prosecutors say 22-year-old Linus Norgren knocked out Jeff McDonald, dislocated both his shoulders, tried to strangle him and dug a thumb into his eye. The victim says Norgren told him that “he was a Sasquatch from a family of Sasquatches.” The young man was sentenced Tuesday.
The Oregonian reports that a Washington County jury rejected Norgren’s self-defense claim and found him guilty of attempted murder and second-degree assault.
Norgren told Circuit Judge Thomas Kohl that he didn’t mean to hurt the hunter but his bipolar disorder made him feel scared and made him feel that he had to defend himself. The attack happened near Manning, west of Portland.
McDonald asked the judge to consider Norgren’s dangerousness. The victim said there is nothing stopping Norgren from similar violent attacks in the future.
