Oregon man pleads no contest in grandfather’s killing

ROSEBURG, Ore. — A Roseburg man involved in the 2012 killing of his grandfather pleaded no contest to aggravated murder.

The Roseburg News-Review reported that Jonathan Lackey, 25, also pleaded no contest Monday to first-degree arson and pleaded guilty to five counts of attempting to commit murder.

As part of the deal, Lackey will be serving life in prison without possibility of parole, plus an additional 210 months.

Lackey is accused of shooting at officers who came to question him at Casa Loma Motel about his 71-year-old grandfather Richard Casebeer’s death. Casebeer’s body was found inside his home after a house fire that police investigated and ruled a homicide identifying Lackey as a person of interest.

Lackey fired two dozen shots at detectives from his motel room.

No one was wounded.
