ASTORIA, Ore. — An Oregon woman has pleaded not guilty to charges related to the heroin overdose death of another woman and her unborn child.
The Daily Astorian reports that 20-year-old Lacey Saranpaa of Astoria is charged with possessing heroin, delivery of methamphetamine, hindering prosecution and tampering with evidence.
Police say Saranpaa and a 54-year-old man were in a motel room with 35-year-old Torae Shufelt, also of Astoria, when she overdosed. Shufelt was six months pregnant.
Authorities say Saranpaa hid drugs and paraphernalia in her purse before police arrived.
The man performed CPR on Shufelt and was not charged with any crimes related to the incident.
Saranpaa is accused of five other drug-related cases going back to January.
