ASHLAND, Ore. — Oregonians are remembering the firefighters killed last week in the crash of a helicopter in Northern California.
In Ashland on Sunday, parishoners at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church talked about 19-year-old David Steele.
The Reverend Sean Weeks said Steele was involved in youth programs and outreach ministries. Weeks said he was “just a humble, quiet” guy who played football and rugby.
A memorial service for 25-year-old Scott Charlson is planned in Eugene on Monday morning.
A pilot and a U.S. Forest Service employee died in the crash along with seven firefighters for the Southern Oregon contractor Grayback Forestry.
