BELLINGHAM — The family of a 7-year-old boy who drowned last week at Whatcom Falls Park in Bellingham says his organs were donated to help other people and medical research.
The family released a statement Monday through the Bellingham Police Department thanking rescue personnel and the medical staff at St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham and Seattle Children’s Hospital.
The family says the boy wanted to become a hero by becoming a firefighter, but he became a hero by donating organs to three different people.
The boy was swept over the 30-foot falls Tuesday on a family outing and was found in the cold water about two hours later. The King County medical examiner’s office says Jaden Griffin died Thursday of accidental drowning.
