Arlington

Local Idol concert this weekend

A concert with Arlington’s contestants in the Evergreen Country Idol competition is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday at the Beehive Stage, 28802 Highway 9.

The Variety House is organizing the concert and planning semifinals for the competition on Aug. 2. Two area singers are expected to be selected to participate in the Evergreen State Fair semifinals in Monroe.

Saturday’s event costs $5 for adults, and is free for kids 12 and under. Alcohol and smoking are not allowed at the event.

Darrington

Bluegrass festival this weekend

The 31st annual Darrington Bluegrass Festival is planned for Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Darrington Bluegrass Music Park, three miles west of Darrington on Highway 530.

The festival features more than a dozen performers. Rhonda Vincent and the Rage, and David Davis &the Warrior River Boys are headlining the show.

Everett

Silversmithing taught at center

Beginning and advanced silversmithing classes are available at the Everett Senior Activity Center beginning in August.

The advanced class will begin Aug. 1; the beginning class will begin Aug. 2. Both classes will run from 9 a.m. to noon each week for eight weeks.

Pioneer event at Coupeville

Everyone is invited to relive pioneer times at a program titled “Night and Day on the Prairie” from Friday to Sundayat Smith Farm on Ebey’s Prairie at Coupeville. The program features classes, tours, demonstrations and discussions.

Lake Stevens

Ceremony for Sirita playground

A groundbreaking and tree planting ceremony for a playground in memory of Sirita Sotelo is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at Lundeen Park, 10020 Lundeen Parkway.

A playground for toddlers is scheduled to be installed in the park next month in memory of Sirita, a 4-year-old Lake Stevens girl who was beaten to death two years ago by her stepmother.

Lynnwood

Forum planned for candidates

Political candidates are scheduled to field questions at a July 31 forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Snohomish County and American Association of University Women.

The sponsors invited candidates running for Lynnwood City Council, Edmonds School District board, Snohomish County Council and Stevens Hospital commission.

An informal meet and greet is planned at 6:30 p.m. followed by candidate statements and audience questions at 7 p.m.

The event is planned at the Lynnwood City Council Chambers, 19100 44th Ave. W., Lynnwood.

Marysville

Volunteers sought for track meets

The city of Marysville Parks and Recreation department is seeking volunteers for a series of four All-Comers Track and Field Meets the next three Thursdays, beginning today.

The meets are scheduled for 6 to 8:30 p.m. today, July 16 and Aug. 2 at Marysville Pilchuck High School, 5611 108th St. NE.

The meets are for all ages. Volunteers will be needed at different field and running events throughout the meets. Anyone interested may call Kayla Flynn at 360-363-8401.

Mill Creek

Classic cars to be shown at concert

Owners of classic cars are invited to show off their wheels before and during a free August concert.

The concert is scheduled from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 9. People are asked to bring their classic cars between 5:30 and 6 p.m. to City Hall at 15728 Main St.

The cost of displaying a car is $10. People’s Choice awards are expected to be handed out.

Seminar on winning at fair

A seminar on how to enter and win at the state fair is set for 7 p.m. July 26 and at 10 a.m. July 28 at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds, 14405 179th Ave.

The free event is to give people tips on how to win a blue ribbon in baking and other competitions at the Evergreen State Fair.

No pre-registration is required, and the event is open to people of all ages and skill levels.

Snohomish

Center offers monthly breakfast

Snohomish Seniors plans to offer a pancake and waffle breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Aug. 4.

The cost is $4 for adults and $3 for children. The breakfast includes pancakes, waffles and French toast (all with strawberries and whipped cream optional), eggs to order, biscuits and gravy, ham or sausage, juice, and coffee or tea.

Proceeds from this event help support the 41 programs and services offered at the Snohomish Senior Center.
