Arlington

Vintage aircraft set to fly Saturday

Vintage aircraft from Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen’s Flying Heritage Collection are scheduled to fly above the Arlington Airport on Saturday.

If the weather cooperates, the planes should take off about 12:30 p.m. and fly for an hour.

Edmonds

‘Edmonds Idol’ contest continues

Competitors in the city’s “Edmonds Idol” contest are scheduled to perform following an outdoor concert Sunday.

The concert by the band Shawn’s Kugel is planned for 3 p.m. at City Park, Third Avenue S. and Pine Street.

The “Edmonds Idol” performers were selected at auditions in May and June. Twelve finalists, as determined by fan balloting, will perform at the Taste of Edmonds on Aug. 12 for a prize of $250 and a trip to the “Battle of Idols” at the Puyallup Fair.

Camano Island book signing

Karen Prasse will sign her latest book, “Camano Island,” from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Snow Goose, Too bookstore on Camano Island.

The book highlights the history of Camano Island with more than 200 photographs from the Stanwood Area Historical Society.

The reception is free and open to the public.

‘Shrek’ set for family film night

Tigers Black Belt Academy will host a free showing of “Shrek,” at 5 today at 9327 Fourth Street NE, Suite 1-A.

Lynnwood

Interurban trolley open for tours

One of the old Interurban trolley cars that ran between Seattle and Everett in the early 20th century can now be toured at Lynnwood’s Heritage Park.

Car 55 is one of the six electric Interurban rail cars that provided commuter service from 1910 to 1939. The car is being restored.

Tours are available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the second and fourth Thursdays and Saturdays of the month through August.

From September through November, tours will be given on Saturdays only, and from December through May by appointment only.

Monroe

Rummage sale set for principal

A rummage sale will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 4 and 5 and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 6 at Park Place Middle School, 1408 W. Main St., to help outgoing Monroe High School principal Lou Imbesi and his family.

Imbesi suffered a severe stroke on June 20 while playing soccer with friends.

Community members may drop off donation items for the sale at Park Place Middle School on Main Street from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Monday until Aug. 3.

No computer equipment, TVs or large appliances will be accepted.

Mukilteo

Youth club seeks auction donations

Donations of goods and services are being sought for the Mukilteo Boys &Girls Club’s 37th annual benefit luau and silent auction scheduled for Sept. 23.

Last year, the event raised $58,000 for the club. This year, the goal is $65,000.

In lieu of donations, a business card or personal message may be printed in the auction catalog for $50. For the same price, a business may have its logo displayed in the club’s gym for a year.

Silvana

Community fair set for Saturday

Livestock, helicopter rides and food vendors will be featured at the 59th annual Silvana Community Fair on Saturday.

The fair runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is dedicated to the memory of longtime Silvana volunteer Lee Tatum. The retired Boeing worker spent countless hours serving her community. She had been a member of the Fire Auxiliary and the Silvana Community Association. She also volunteered with the fair.

The fair will be held at Viking Hall, 1331 Pioneer Highway.

Snohomish

Senior center holds barbecue

The Snohomish Senior Center will host its annual community-wide barbecue from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Hill Park near Blackmans Lake.

Burgers, hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, beverages and dessert will be served for $5.

The annual event is a way to thank people who have helped the center over the years.
