Arlington

State funds will aid airport work

The state Department of Transportation’s airport aid program will provide the city with $38,580 for work on Arlington Airport.

The money will be used to resurface and restripe the runway, and install fencing and a slide gate to control access.

Planning meeting canceled tonight

The Arlington Planning Commission meeting scheduled for tonight has been canceled.

The commission typically meets twice a month.

Edmonds

Local author to sign his books

Edmonds author John Pierre will sign copies of his new book, “Times in the Life of a Seattle Icon: Joe Diamond,” from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Borders Books at Alderwood mall, 3000 184th St. SW.

Pierre is an associate of Diamond’s, the parking lot czar with more than 1,000 parking locations in nine states and Canada.

Pierre will read passages upon request at the book-signing event.

Everett

Skaters wanted for park opinions

The city wants skateboarders and BMX bikers to offer their opinions on a new skate park at Wiggums Hollow Skate Plaza in north Everett at 8 p.m. May 1 at the Everett Board Co., 2406 Broadway.

Interfaith event on the Holocaust

The Interfaith Association of Snohomish County and Temple Beth Or present “Acts of Rescue and Resistance,” featuring stories, readings, poems and music that recall the Holocaust and help prevent future genocide. Fred Taucher will speak about his escape from the Dachau concentration camp.

The program begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Temple Beth Or, 3215 Lombard Ave.

Island County

Earth Day party on Camano Island

A free Earth Day celebration will be from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at Four Springs Lake Preserve, 585 Lewis Lane, Camano Island. Activities will include tree planting, bird-watching, native plant walks and geocaching.

Lynnwood

Rotary offering community grants

The Rotary Club of Lynnwood is offering grants of up to $2,500 for community improvement projects. To qualify, a group or organization must be nonprofit, with 501(c)3 tax status preferred.

Those seeking grants must provide services to Lynnwood and south Snohomish County residents, defined by the Edmonds School District boundaries.

Marysville

Training builds strong families

“Strengthening Families Training,” a free seven-week class for parents and children 10 to 14 years old, begins with a free dinner at 5:15 p.m. Monday and continues on through June 12. Free child care is included.

The class is sponsored by the Snohomish County Community Mobilization, Marysville Community Coalition, the Marysville North County Family YMCA and Marysville Middle School.

Monroe

Cattle ranch tour and field day set

Snohomish County Cattleman’s Association sponsors the Beef Cattle Ranch Tour and Educational Field Day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 29 at 16603 275th St. SE.

The event will teach participants about soil conservation, fertilizer, cattle vaccination and other aspects of farming.

Mukilteo

Civil service meeting canceled

The Mukilteo Civil Service Commission meeting scheduled for today has been canceled. The commission reviews policies and procedures for the city’s police and fire departments.

Snohomish

Officials celebrate completion of trail

The Snohomish City Council will celebrate the dedication of the Snohomish Riverfront Trail at 3 p.m. Friday. U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen, D-Wash., will be the main speaker.

The dedication will be at the western end of the trail near First Street and Avenue D.

Construction of the 1.5-mile trail began in 2004, but planning began in 1995 after a flood washed out than 350 feet of riverbank.

The project cost was $2.5 million, with 70 percent of that from state and federal sources and the rest from the city.

Snohomish County

Paine Field panel will meet today

A panel reviewing aviation at Paine Field and its role in Snohomish County’s future meets at 2:30 p.m. today on the first floor of the county East Administration Building, 3000 Rockefeller Ave., Everett.

The meeting of the Mediated Role Determination Panel will be overseen by County Executive Aaron Reardon, former Mukilteo mayor Don Doran and Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson.
