Alzheimer’s class at senior center
The Stillaguamish Senior Center is offering a special class called “Challenges in the Middle to Late Stage of Dementia” taught by Sue Schepp, a registered nurse affiliated with state chapters of the Alzheimer’s Association.
The class will be from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the center, 18308 Smokey Point Blvd.
The senior center also offers a family caregiver support group from 10 to 11:30 a.m. every Monday.
On Sunday, the center will host a chicken dinner from 1-3 p.m.

Edmonds
Group plans rally on land purchase
A group of residents from the south end of Edmonds will rally today to urge the city to buy land for a park.
The Sherwood Park and Playfield Preservation Council will meet at 6 p.m. outside the City Council chambers at 250 Fifth Ave. N.
The group is pushing for the city to buy all 11 acres of the former Woodway Elementary School site at 23700 104th Ave. W. from the Edmonds School District. Snohomish County has assessed the property at $7.6 million.
The City Council is scheduled to address the issue at its meeting today at 7 p.m.

Federal workers holding seminar
The Association of Federal Employees will meet for a symposium at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Edmonds Yacht Club, 456 Admiral Way.
The featured speakers will be Dr. Rebecca Wolfe and Adam Bartz, community liaison for U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee, D-Wash. All employed and retired federal employees are invited.

Crazy Hair Day at Imagine museum
The crazier, the better at Imagine Children’s Museum on April 1, when children will celebrate Crazy Hair Day, a national literacy initiative based on the book “Crazy Hair Day” by Barney Saltzberg.
The book will be read in local schools March 31, and special Crazy Hair Day activities will take place at the museum April 1, including a visit from Saltzberg, who will sign copies of the book.

Diversity event set for March 29
A Diversity Business Expo to support businesses owned by women and minorities will be at 6 p.m. March 29 at Everett Station, 3201 Smith Ave.
The city of Everett is cooperating with Snohomish County and Everett Community College for the event. Participants will be able to talk to representatives from Everett, Lynnwood, Community Transit, the Everett School District, the Port of Everett and other local government representatives.

Rainfall so far is double last year’s
Lake Stevens Drainage Improvement District 8 reported 2.55 inches of rain in February and 8.71 inches in January and February combined.
That’s more than double the precipitation recorded last year during those times: 1.23 inches in February 2005 and 3.15 inches in January and February 2005.

Support group for seniors offered
Interested residents are invited to attend a seniors-only support group.
The group meets from 3 to 4 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at the Family Support Center of South Snohomish County, 6330 195th St. SW, Lynnwood.
Each free session includes open discussion time for meeting other senior citizens and sharing experiences.

Lighthouse tour guides sought
he Mukilteo Historical Society offers volunteer training for anyone interested in leading centennial-year tours of the Mukilteo Lighthouse.
The next two training sessions are set for 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the lighthouse, 608 Front St. The lighthouse will open for the season April 1.
