Arlington

Cascade Valley sponsors book sale

The Cascade Valley Hospital Foundation sponsors a two-day book fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the hospital, 330 S. Stillaguamish Ave.

Proceeds from the books and gifts will benefit the hospital and its clinics.

Edmonds

Carve a pumpkin under the water

The annual Edmonds Underwater Pumpkin Carving Contest is planned for noon to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Edmonds Underwater Dive Park on the north side of the ferry dock.

Prizes of scuba gear will be awarded to the carvers of the scariest and funniest jack-o’-lanterns.

The entry fee is $10, with proceeds going to maintain the dive park. Pumpkins will be supplied by Albertsons. Divers should bring their own carving tools.

Everett

Early settlers will be discussed

Author and historian Charles LeWarne will share stories and photos from his book “Utopias on Puget Sound, 1895-1915” at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Everett Public Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave.

LeWarne will speak about the Northwest’s communal societies, from Skagit County’s Equality Colony in 1897 to Whidbey Island’s modern-day Love Israel family. The stories will show how early settlers envisioned life in northwest Washington.

Lake Stevens

Hurricane benefit breakfast Saturday

The Kiwanis, Lions and Rotary clubs of Lake Stevens plan an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast Saturday to benefit the American Red Cross and hurricane relief.

The breakfast includes pancakes, ham, eggs, sausage, coffee and juice for a $5 a person from 7 to 11:30 a.m. at Lake Stevens High School, 2908 113th Ave. NE.

Lynnwood

Square dance club will offer lessons

The Dudes and Dolls Square Dance Club offers lessons at 7:30 p.m. every Tuesday at Cedar Valley Grange Hall, 20526 52nd Ave. W.

Marysville

Merrill Gardens donates $100,000

Merrill Gardens residents and team members raised $100,000 to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina in a companywide effort for the American Red Cross.

Each of the 66 Merrill Gardens communities in 14 states across the country participated in the fundraiser, inviting family, friends and the public to a Southern-style meal.

The company donated the food and beverages.

The gumbo feed in Marysville raised $900.

Merrill Gardens operates assisted living retirement communities across the country.

Mill Creek

Entries sought to name new park

Mill Creek residents are invited to participate in a contest to name the city’s newest park.

The 1.5-acre park is under construction in the Vineyards subdivision just west of Mill Creek Boulevard.

Mill Creek City Councilman John Hudgins has offered a $50 prize to the person who comes up with the winning name.

Monroe

Center plans holiday bazaar

The East County Senior Center invites the public to its annual holiday bazaar and craft fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 5 at 824 Village Way.

Featured items will include handmade crafts, jewelry, wooden items and holiday decorations. There also will be Cabbage Patch soup and sandwiches from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Mukilteo

First hearing on budget set

The public will have a chance to comment on the city’s proposed 2006 budget at a hearing scheduled for 7 p.m. Nov. 7 at City Hall, 4480 Chennault Beach Road.

Mayor Don Doran will file his 2006 budget message and proposed 2006 budget with the city clerk the day of the meeting.

Subsequent hearings will be Nov. 14 and Nov. 21.

Gallery holds open house

The Offset Corner Custom Frame and Gallery will have a gallery open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 5 at 310 Maple Ave.

County releases new events list

The Snohomish County Tourism Bureau has released its 2005-06 fall-winter calendar of events.

The calendar features events, fairs, festivals, performing and visual arts, music, museums, crafts, markets and attractions this month through March.
