Jeanette Dushkin, “The Travelin’ Crafter,” will teach kids how to make an old-fashioned gingerbread house at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Arlington Boys &Girls Club, 18513 59th Ave. NE.

Next City Council meeting is Jan. 3
The Edmonds City Council meeting originally scheduled for today has been canceled.
The council’s next meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Jan. 3 in the City Council Chambers at the Public Safety Complex, 250 Fifth Ave. N.
Ron Wambolt, who was elected to the City Council in November, and returning council members Michael Plunkett and Deanna Dawson will be sworn in at the meeting.

Join ‘Messiah’ sing-along Sunday
There will be a sing-along of Handel’s “Messiah” at 3 p.m. Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church, 2936 Rockefeller Ave., to benefit the Everett Symphony’s trip to Carnegie Hall in 2006.
Paul-Elliott Cobbs will conduct the choir, which will include everyone who attends.

Youth summit slated for tonight
The Granite Falls Voices of Youth Summit will begin at 6:30 tonight at Granite Falls Middle School, 205 N. Alder Ave.
The summit will feature a diverse panel of teenagers presenting important everyday local issues to community leaders.
The event will be sponsored by the Granite Falls Community Coalition, the Snohomish County Health and Safety Network and the county’s Office of Children’s Affairs.

Culinary group to meet for sweets
The Culinary Art Society will have its Christmas meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Camano Senior and Community Center, 606 Arrowhead Road, Camano Island.
This month’s competition is appetizers or holiday sweets.
People not competing may bring a salad for the potluck.
Members and guests not bringing a dish pay $5 for the tasting event.
The meeting will also feature a cookie exchange in which six dozen holiday cookies can be exchanged for six dozen assorted cookies.

Health officials want your ideas
The Island County Health Department wants to hear from people on Whidbey and Camano islands about what will help them lead more active, healthier lives.
As part of a project to develop a plan for increased physical activity and better nutrition, the health department has designed an online survey to give people an opportunity to suggest possible ways to reduce some of the obstacles many people encounter as they work toward healthier lifestyles.
The survey will be available through Dec. 18.

Arts commission meets Wednesday
The Lake Stevens Arts Commission will meet Wednesday to discuss next year’s Music on the Lake, Blooms Around the Lake, Web site hosting and a themed art exhibit. The meeting is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 1812 Main St. It is open to the public.
Lynnwood
Learn about city’s water, sewer plans
Lynnwood has an open house Thursday for residents to consider how the city will provide water and sewer services over the next 20 years.
The open house is set for 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Lynnwood Fire Station 15, 18800 44th Ave. W. People will have a chance to ask questions and express concerns.
The city’s plans to operate, upgrade and maintain the city’s water and wastewater systems until 2026, including proposed utility fee increases, will be discussed.
Copies of the city’s plans are available at the Lynnwood Library for review.

Marysville
Restaurant serves families in need
The Village Restaurant expects to feed up to 300 people in need from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday. Owners Desiree and Curry Smythe have invited men, women and children to enjoy a traditional turkey dinner and pumpkin pie.
Members of the Marysville Lions Club, Marysville Kiwanis Club, Marysville First Assembly of God and customers and employees of the restaurant have volunteered to help serve and clean up. Santa Claus will put in an appearance with gifts for the children.
The restaurant can seat 100 people, and diners will come through three charitable organizations. The first will be residents of the Gospel Mission in Everett who are on the Discipleship Recovery Program. The second group is from Housing Hope, which helps provide housing for the needy. The final group will come from Life Changes Ministry of Marysville and Everett.
“We have been blessed, and want to pass our good fortune on to others,” Desiree Smythe said.
Mill Creek
Meeting for newly annexed residents
The city of Mill Creek has scheduled a community meeting for residents of the newly annexed Thomas Lake area from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Heatherwood Middle School cafeteria, 1419 Trillium Blvd. SE.
The meeting will provide an overview of city services. Mill Creek staff members will attend to provide information and answer questions. New residents can also purchase city pet and business licenses.
In addition to city staff, personnel from Fire District 7, which serves the city of Mill Creek, and other service providers will attend.

Hospital offers free fat screening
Valley General Hospital’s Sports and Physical Therapy is hosting a free body fat screening for those who bring in two nonperishable food items to the clinic, located in the new Sky River Medical Center. The donated food will go to local food banks.

Santa Claus will visit lighthouse
Santa Claus will visit the Mukilteo Lighthouse on Saturday.
Santa will arrive at the lighthouse at noon and stay until 3 p.m. The lighthouse, 604 Front St., will be open for public tours during that time.
The Lighthouse Gift Shop will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Medicare drug plan help offered
Snohomish Seniors will host a Medicare Part D enrollment workshop from 8 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the Snohomish Library, 311 Maple Ave.
Volunteers will work one-on-one with individuals to determine whether they need to enroll and, if so, what programs will best meet their needs. Appointments will take about 30 minutes each; reservations are required.

Stanwood
Christmas concert at cultural center
The Stanwood Area Historical Society will present a concert by the Overman Family at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center, 27112 102nd Ave.
The group is a family of eight children, ages 5 to 23, who play violin, viola or cello, and their parents, Ken and Marilyn Jane. Their music is centered on their Christian faith and a love of sacred, classical and traditional music. The concert will feature many traditional carols.
