Bingo sessions will be smoke-free

With the new anti-smoking state Initiative 901 taking effect, the Stillaguamish Senior Center’s bingo sessions will now be nonsmoking, said Jo Olson, the center’s executive director.

The weekly bingo fundraisers are at 11 a.m. Tuesdays and 7 p.m. Fridays at the center, 18308 Smokey Point Blvd.

The center also will hold a pancake breakfast fundraiser from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday.

Library board plans meeting

Everett

Shoreline trail wins recognition

The Shoreline Interurban Trail, which stretches between Everett and Seattle, was recognized by the state chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.

Otak Inc., an international design firm with offices in the Pacific Northwest, was honored for its work on the trail. Otak produced a preliminary design report for trail alignment and developed final designs for the trail’s north and south ends.

Boeing choir will perform Saturday

The Boeing Employees Choir will perform a Christmas concert at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday at Cascadian Place, 3915 Colby Ave.

Donations of $5 will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The concert will feature classical, spiritual and secular music. To reserve a spot, call Cascadian Place at 425-339-2225.

Island County

Planners take on agricultural issues

The Island County Planning Commission is scheduled to continue discussing land-use rules for agricultural zones next week.

The first meeting is a continuation of a public hearing about amendments that attempt to address environmental concerns by requiring detailed farm management plans for land near streams and wetlands.

That hearing will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Harbor High School, 950 NW Second Ave.

The commission is scheduled to deliberate on the proposal at 1 p.m. Dec. 15 in Room 102B, annex building, 1 NE Sixth St., Coupeville.

Lake Stevens

Chamber holding toy drive Monday

The Greater Lake Stevens Chamber of Commerce will conduct its annual toy drive at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the school district administration building, 12309 22nd St. NE.

The chamber urges those attending to bring a new toy as a Christmas gift for children who might otherwise go without.

The luncheon speaker will be Helen Thayer, who in 1988 trekked solo to the North Pole without a dog sled or snowmobile.

There also will be an update about an upcoming school levy.

The cost is $10 for members and $15 for nonmembers. Notify the chamber at 425-334-0433 by noon today if you plan to attend.

Lynnwood

Drop off toys for kids at St. Vincent

St. Vincent de Paul of Snohomish County is seeking toys for children for the holidays.

New, unwrapped gifts may be dropped off at the St. Vincent de Paul store at 17214 Highway 99 in Lynnwood or at the store at 6424 Broadway in Everett.

Marysville

Firefighters plan to collect food

Marysville firefighters will be collecting food Dec. 14 and 15 at Safeway.

The canned food drive is part of the annual Santa Run by Marysville Professional Firefighters Local 3219.

A firetruck, firefighters and Santa will be setting up shop for people to donate goods to the Marysville Food Bank.

Donations can be made between 4 and 8 p.m. at the Safeway at 1258 State Ave.

Couple donates to youth program

Ross and Mary Jane Miller of Marysville have donated $500 toward the Marysville Parks and Recreation Youth Basketball Program.

The money will be used to acquire portable scoreboards.

The Millers have been major benefactors in the community, especially for youth and senior programs.

Monroe

Food bank asks for donations

In preparation for the cold winter months and upcoming holidays, the Sky Valley Food Bank encourages people to donate food or money to many needy families in the community.

Mukilteo

Society seeks lighthouse lore

The Mukilteo Historical Society is looking for people who lived or worked at the Mukilteo Light Station in past years.

The historical society is working on a list of the names and addresses of lighthouse service and Coast Guard personnel and their families for inclusion in the lighthouse’s centennial celebration in 2006.

Snohomish

Medicare event for seniors set

The Snohomish Senior Center is hosting a free Medicare Part D enrollment event Dec. 15 from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Snohomish Library, 311 Maple Ave.

Volunteers will work one-on-one with those 65 and older to determine whether they need to enroll and, if so, what programs will meet their specific needs. Appointments take approximately 30 minutes; reservations are required.

Stanwood

Band auctions Christmas trees

The Stanwood High School Band has scheduled a silent Christmas tree auction from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the high school, 7400 272nd St. NW.
