City offers new fall fitness classes
The city is offering new fitness classes for the fall.
Fit for Life takes place 8:30-9:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Full Circle, Floor Me and Cardio, Core, Calm take place Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings.
Classes are geared for all levels of fitness.

Everett
Health agency gets a clean audit
The Snohomish Health District passed its latest state audit, the 15th straight year in which no problems were found.
The state Auditor’s Office inspected the local public health agency’s financial statements, assessed its compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, checked how it followed internal policies and procedures, and examined its accountability for public resources.
The audit covered calendar year 2004. The health district’s 2004 general fund budget was $18,057,296 and its special revenue funds budget was $1,753,594.
Voters invited to mix and mingle
There will be a nonpartisan voter fair, Get Out the Vote 2005, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday at the Everett Community College Parks Building, 2000 Tower St.
At this free open house, attendees can register to vote, learn about using voting machines and absentee ballots, educate themselves on the issues and meet some candidates.
All Snohomish County Council and Everett candidates were invited, as were representatives from both sides of all the statewide issues on the Nov. 8 general election ballot. There will be no political speeches, but candidates and representatives of ballot issues will have information available and will be available to speak to visitors.
The Interfaith Association of Snohomish County, Everett Community College’s Equity and Diversity Center and the Snohomish County Auditor’s Office are sponsoring this event.

Father of the Year fete Wednesday
Deaconess Children’s Services annual dinner, during which the Father of the Year awards will be presented, will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Everett Station.

Island County
Hunting meeting scheduled tonight
County commissioners will meet tonight on Camano Island to discuss hunting issues.
The meeting will be at 6 p.m. at Elger Bay Elementary School, 1810 Elger Bay Road. It is a continuation of a Sept. 26 public hearing.
Laws to be discussed would restrict discharge and use of firearms near Deer Lagoon but would allow hunting on Camano Ridge and Kettles Trail.

Chamber hosts candidate forum
The Greater Lake Stevens Chamber of Commerce will feature a candidates’ forum for the City Council positions next week.
The forum will include questions from a moderator and from the audience. Questions may be submitted ahead of time to the chamber office at info@lschamber.org.

Korean group has a harvest festival
Korean Focus NW is hosting Chusok, a harvest festival to honor family and feasting, at the Morning Star Korean Cultural Center in Lynnwood on Saturday.

The public is invited. The celebration will include a traditional Korean meal and performances.

Marysville
Board candidate touts opponent
A Marysville School Board candidate is encouraging voters to choose her opponent when they vote in the Nov. 8 general election.
Teri Tyo said Wednesday that financial issues and time constraints caused her to try to withdraw her name from the ballot. Tyo and Cindy Erickson are on the ballot for District 5.
Her decision came too late to meet legal requirements to get her name taken off the ballot, she said.
“I had to make a decision,” she said. “Family has to come first.”
Baby story time and play time set
The Marysville Public Library is hosting a story time for babies 3-12 months old at 10:30 this morning at the library, 6120 Grove St.
The child must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. A play time will follow the story time, so bring some of your child’s favorite toys.

District promotes fire prevention
Snohomish County Fire District 3 is taking a lead role in Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 9-15.
Firefighters will visit classrooms to teach fire safety. On Oct. 15, the fire district will have its annual open house 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at 163 Village Court.

City resident will head ballet school
Lynne Williams of Mukilteo has been appointed ballet mistress at Cameo-Carrabba Dance in Bothell.
Williams, a ballet teacher for more than 35 years, began her training in the Northwest with dance educator Dorothy Fisher. She received a Ford Scholarship to the School of American Ballet and began her professional career with the Boston Ballet, where she was promoted to soloist.
Williams will teach classical ballet and beginning-through-advanced pointe classes at the Bothell school.

Concert will help hurricane victims
The Farm Youth Ministries and Life Changes Ministry have partnered to produce The FARM-Aid benefit concert for victims of Hurricane Katrina.
The free-admission event will help hurricane relief efforts of CRISTA’s World Concern organization and also help local hurricane evacuees Jim and Sheryl Alphonse. The couple’s home was in St. Bernard Parish, one of the worst hit areas of Louisiana.

Tickets are on sale for a virtuoso baroque concert by the Cohan-Shangrow Duo, featuring flutist Jeffrey Cohan and harpsichordist George Shangrow.

Youth basketball signups ongoing
Youngsters in kindergarten through eighth grade can sign up for basketball at the Tulalip Boys &Girls Club through Nov. 12.
Teams are formed in the order that registrations are received. Players may request other players or a specific coach or team until squads are full. Registrations received after Nov. 5 will be taken on a space-available basis.
Practices start Nov. 14 and games continue through Feb. 12. Practices are 5-8 p.m. weeknights at the club, 7707 36th Ave. NW.
Cost is $50 per player and includes a T-shirt and pictures.
