Arlington

Country duo kicks off park concerts

The city’s Music in the Park program this year begins this week with the Don Kellogg Duo playing country music.

The show begins at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Legion Park, 114 N. Olympic Ave.

The series will continue each Thursday evening in August.

Edmonds

Council considers CT agreement

The Edmonds City Council will meet from 7 to 10 p.m. on Tuesday at the council chambers in the public safety complex, 250 Fifth Ave. N. The council will consider approval of a list of businesses applying to renew their liquor licenses and will consider authorization for the mayor to sign an agreement with Community Transit for funding for a Highway 99 traffic circulation and safety study.

Everett

Volunteers sought to help seniors

The Snohomish County Long Term Care Ombudsman Program seeks volunteers with good problem-solving skills to serve as advocates for older adults.

Trained volunteer ombudsmen listen to the concerns and questions of residents living in nursing homes, assisted livings or adult family homes, working to resolve their problems or answer questions.

Volunteers receive four days of free training to become state certified ombudsmen and volunteer up to four hours a week.

More than 300 facilities in Snohomish County currently need volunteers. Call Michal Glauner at 425-388-7393 for information.

Downtown plan meeting Tuesday

Everett’s Planning Commission will hold a public workshop at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Planning Department Public Hearing Room, on the eighth floor of the Wall Street Building, 2930 Wetmore Ave.

The planning department will present information to the commission and public on the initial steps for a new redevelopment plan for downtown Everett.

Those who attend may give comments on the plan, which will possibly affect the area bounded by 25th and 33rd streets, and by Broadway and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad right of way.

Reservations for a number of trips with the Senior Activity Center can be made starting today.

Trips include Senior Day in the Parks ($15), Antique Tractor Show and Threshing Bee ($15), Everett Aqua Sox Picnic Day ($18), Woodland Park Zoo ($15), Mount Rainier Scenic Railroad ($32) and Ocean Shores, a three-days, two-nights trip ($125).

Island County

Learn about salmon recovery

The Island County Water Resource Advisory Committee will meet 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Camano Chapel, 867 S. West Camano Drive on Camano Island, to learn about three salmon recovery projects on the island.

The three projects are being proposed for state Salmon Recovery Board grants.

Also, the Cascade Land Conservancy will talk about near-shore conservation efforts.

Lake Stevens

Council won’t meet tonight

The City Council won’t conduct its regular workshop session tonight. The council often skips the first work session after Aquafest, and this week its agenda would have been light, Mayor Lynn Walty said.

Walty will be in Memphis, Tenn., on Monday on Community Transit business.

The council will meet next week at 7 p.m. Aug. 8 at 1808 Main St. The meeting is open to the public.

Lynnwood

Council reviews strategic plans

The Lynnwood City Council will meet at 7 p.m. tonight at the council chambers, 19100 44th Ave. W.

The council will review departmental strategic plans for parks, recreation and cultural arts, as well as administrative services. The council will also interview a candidate for the diversity commission.

Marysville

Council won’t meet this month

The City Council won’t meet tonight or at any of its customary meetings this month. The council routinely takes off the month of August as city staff begins the budget process and preparation for fall budget meetings.

The council will meet next at 7 p.m. Sept. 5 at City Hall, 1049 State Ave.

Monroe

Watch movies under the moon

The first season of the Movies Under the Moon will take place at the Sky River Park off Village Way on Fridays, Aug. 5, 12, and 19.

Festivities will begin at 7 p.m. and the movies will start at dusk. Fun family games and activities will be 7 to 9 p.m. including live music. Prizes will be awarded for best costume from each movie.

The lineup for this series includes: “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” (PG), Aug. 5; “Escape to Witch Mountain” (G), Aug 12; “The Gods Must Be Crazy” (PG), Aug. 19.

Internist opens Sky River office

Dr. Diane Doerner, board-certified in internal medicine, will be opening an office in the Sky River Medical Center on the Valley General Hospital campus this month.

Doerner formerly worked at the University of Washington Medical Center.

Sky River Internal Medicine Clinic is located at 14841 179th Ave SE, Suite 210.

Mukilteo

Executive session discusses litigation

The Mukilteo City Council is holding an executive session at 6 p.m. in the council chambers, 4480 Chennault Beach Road. The council will discuss potential litigation. The session is not open to the public.

Snohomish

Christian music festival set

The third annual Freedom Fest, a Christian music festival, is scheduled Aug. 19-21 at Stocker Farms, 13003 200th St. SE, Snohomish.

Stanwood

‘Best Li’l Fair in the West’ returns

The “Best Li’l Fair in the West” returns this weekend.

The Stanwood Camano Community Fair will be Friday through Sunday at the Stanwood Camano Fairgrounds, 6431 Pioneer Highway.

This year features music by Otis Day and the Nights, a lip-syncing contest and all the animal competitions and food vendors.
