Concert to rock Legion Park
The city’s Music in the Park series continues this week with a concert by Mark Stubbs and Rock de Ville.
The group plays rock from the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s. The concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Legion Park, 114 N. Olympic Ave.
The series of shows will continue through August.

Jews for Jesus founder to speak
Moiseh Rosen, founder of the Jews for Jesus ministry, will speak Sunday in Edmonds.
The talk is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Edgewood Baptist Church, 20405 76th Ave. W.

Register online for parks classes
Internet registration will soon be available for Everett Parks and Recreation classes.
Those interested in classes can go to signmeup.everettwa.org to sign up for any of the 513 classes offered this fall. You will also be able to check program availability and receive registration confirmation.
Registration in person or by phone and mail is also available.

The South Forest Park Neighborhood Association will meet at 7 tonight at Zion Lutheran Church, 4634 S. Alger Ave.

Island County
Camano honored as wildlife habitat
The National Wildlife Federation will recognize Camano Island as a community wildlife habitat, only the 10th place in the nation to qualify in the environmental group’s Backyard Wildlife Program.
Residents worked to establish 511 certified wildlife habitats on the island in the past 21/2 years. The program encourages minimizing use of pesticides and irrigation and linking wildlife corridors.
An open house and certificate presentation are scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Four Springs Lake Preserve, at the end of Lewis Lane on Camano Island.
The certificate will be presented at 2 p.m. Visitors will also be able to take guided nature walks and tour the park’s rental facilities.
Lake Stevens
Book club meets Wednesday
Adults are invited to join the Lake Stevens Book Group for its monthly book discussion.
This month’s selection is “Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini.
The group meets 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Lake Stevens Library, 1804 Main St.
Lynnwood
City offers class in government
The city is accepting applications for the 2005 Lynnwood University.
The class, aimed at helping residents become more involved in the city, takes place Thursday evenings from Sept.15 through Nov. 10. The program is a course in the various aspects of municipal government and includes visits to city facilities.

Free concerts this week at parks
City officials invite the public to enjoy two free concerts this week, one during the lunch hour Wednesday at Comeford Park downtown and the other in the evening Friday.
At noon Wednesday, Eric Herman &the Invisible Band will perform swing and jazz at Comeford Park, 514 Delta Ave. On Friday, Geezer will perform classic rock at 7 p.m. at Jennings Memorial Park, 6915 Armar Road.

Council discusses N. Kelsey project
The City Council meets for a work session at City Hall, 806 W. Main St., at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
The council will discuss an update on the North Kelsey development north of U.S. 2. The city has developed a marketing plan to recruit businesses to the development. For more information, call 360-794-7400.
Mukilteo
Beach closed for port pier kickoff
Edgewater Beach, at the east end of the former Mukilteo tank farm, will be closed to the public Wednesday and Thursday for the kickoff of construction on the Port of Everett’s pier project.
The $20 million pier is being built to transfer airplane parts from ships to railcars to Boeing’s Everett plant.
Other beach closures may be necessary during construction and will be announced beforehand, port spokeswoman Lisa Mandt said. Work is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2006.

Stanwood
Bird-watching festival planned
Laura Byers of the Stanwood Chamber of Commerce is trying to organize a new bird-watching festival next February.
Byers presented the idea at a recent City Council meeting.
A tentative sample schedule involves a weekend event Feb. 25 and 26 with activities in Stanwood and Camano Island. Activities would include guided tours as well as slide shows and talks from birding experts.
The event is tentatively being called the Port Susan Snow Goose Festival.
