Summer sale to benefit hospital

The Cascade Valley Hospital Foundation is sponsoring a summer accessory sale of handbags, flip flops, tote bags, jewelry and more from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at the hospital, 330 S. Stillaguamish Ave.

Proceeds will benefit the hospital.

Edmonds

Building design on council agenda

The Edmonds City Council will discuss building design guidelines and downtown zoning at its meeting today.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at the Public Safety Complex, 250 Fifth Ave. N.

The council’s Community Services-Development Services committee will meet at 6:15 p.m. in the same location to discuss a proposed law to ban storage facilities in certain parts of the city.

Everett

Northwest group’s meeting tonight

The Northwest Neighborhood will have a meeting tonight at the Washington Oakes Retirement Center.

At the meeting tonight at 7, topics will include: Providence Everett Medical Center, Forgotten Creek restoration, mini grants and park play structures.

The center is at Oakes Avenue between 17th and 18th streets. Go to the piano lounge on the third floor by taking the elevator.

Island County

Planners to tackle sticky issues today

The Island County Planning Commission is scheduled to issue its findings and recommendations on some politically sticky building and development rules at its meeting at 9 a.m. today at Room 102B, annex building, 1 NE Sixth St. in Coupeville.

Topics will include frequently flooded areas, building size limits in the rural areas of intense development zone, industrial development siting provisions, planned residential developments and master planned resorts.

The commission also is scheduled to continue a discussion of the county’s agricultural best management practices.

Lake Stevens

Free picnic at North Cove Park

Residents are invited to bring a favorite teddy bear or doll to the season’s last Teddy Bear Picnic from 11a.m.-noon Thursday at North Cove Park in downtown Lake Stevens near the library.

The picnic will include sandwiches, juice, vegetables and dip, a story time and a craft project.

Lynnwood

National Night Out is Aug. 2

National Night Out will take place Aug. 2 in Lynnwood.

Rather than a single event, Lynnwood police and fire units will visit neighborhoods that are having Block Watch parties that evening.

The police and fire departments, in conjunction with the Family Support Center, are registering people interested in setting up a Block Watch.

Police and firefighters will bring their vehicles to the block parties and hand out treats.

Marysville

Two free concerts this week at parks

Craicmore will perform Celtic music from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Rotary Pavilion in Comeford Park, 514 Delta Ave., and The Encounters will perform classic rock from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Lions Centennial Pavilion in Jennings Memorial Park, 6915 Armar Road.

The two concerts are part of the city’s free Sounds of Summer Concerts.

Council discusses flood plain

The City Council will have a work session at City Hall, 806 W. Main St., at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The council will discuss a law regarding flood plain management and the proposed position of parks and recreation department director.

Mukilteo

Comp Plan gets another hearing

The public will have another chance Aug. 4 to comment on the city’s update of its Comprehensive Plan.

The hearing will take place at a meeting of the Mukilteo Planning Commission scheduled for 7 p.m. at City Hall, 4480 Chennault Beach Road.

Land use, housing, transportation and public facilities are among the subjects addressed in the plan.

Silvana

Silvana Fair set for Saturday

The Silvana Community Fair will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the fairgrounds behind Viking Hall, 1331 Pioneer Highway.

Admission is free.

Free transportation along Pioneer Highway will be available from about 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A trolley and a horse-drawn wagon will be making runs – just flag down the drivers and they’ll stop.

Snohomish

National Night Out is Aug. 2

The Snohomish Police Department and Snohomish County Fire District 4 will encourage anyone to participate in the 22nd annual National Night Out Against Crime celebration 5-7 p.m. Aug. 2 at the Carnegie building, 105 Cedar Ave.

The police department and the fire district will have safety information and emergency equipment and vehicles on display.
