Two workshops for economic plan
Two brainstorming workshops have been scheduled to develop strategies to improve Arlington’s economic climate. Mayor Margaret Larson’s Economic Development Steering Committee invites the public to help at each workshop.
The first will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Arlington High School library, 18821 Crown Ridge Blvd.
The second will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 10 in the high school’s central commons.
The committee has been surveying businesses, employees, property owners and visitors, and will use the survey results to help define economic development ideas and alternatives.

Dinner to benefit homeless, shelters
The Sisco Heights Community Club will host its annual spaghetti feed noon-5 p.m. Saturday at 13527 99th Ave. NE.
The purpose of the dinner is to raise funds and gather warm clothing for the homeless and local shelters. Last year, the group donated several truckloads of coats, sleeping bags, blankets, hats and socks, plus money.

Everett
Silvertip inching toward his goal
Mark Kress is 1.5 inches and $3,000 from his goal, and hopes to end the weekend with only inches left to cover.
In an effort to raise money for Providence Everett Medical Center cancer patients who are struggling financially, the Everett Silvertip hockey player has let his auburn locks grow since the season began.
His goal: to grow his hair until it reaches 10 inches, and to grow donations until they reach $10,000.
Kress has raised more than $7,000 and hopes to finish his fund-raising at Saturday’s hockey game at the Everett Events Center.
Glacier View neighbors to meet
The Glacier View Neighborhood Association will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Lowell Elementary School Cafeteria, 5010 View Drive. Everett Office of Neighborhoods coordinator Wendy McClure will speak on project ideas and city grants. Call 425-257-8717.

Red Cross seeks hero nominations
The Island County chapter of the American Red Cross and Whidbey Island Bank are looking for people who have demonstrated extraordinary courage, kindness and unselfish character to be nominated for the seventh annual Heroes Awards.
Nominations must be received by Jan. 17 at the Red Cross office at 1010 W. Ault Field Road, Oak Harbor, WA 98278. Nomination forms are available there, at Whidbey Island Bank in Oak Harbor or online at www.islandredcross.org.
Categories include educator, emergency services, firefighter, good Samaritan adult and youth, humanitarian service, military and police officer.
The ceremony will be March 1 at the Elks Lodge in Oak Harbor.

Council honors Ross Hoagland
The City Council on Wednesday night passed a resolution in honor of Ross Hoagland, who died Dec. 23 at age 89.
Hoagland was born and raised in Everett and volunteered for many organizations. Among other panels, he served on the Everett Board of Adjustment, the Everett Parks Board and the Everett Senior Center Advisory Board.
