Grandview Community Center will have a holiday fair 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday.The fair will include a bake sale, raffle and pictures with Santa.
The Grandview Jammers will provide music. The Jammers can be heard on music jam nights, the fourth Wednesday and second Sunday of every month.

Tree lighting will be Saturday
The annual Edmonds tree-lighting ceremony will be 4:30-5:30 p.m. Saturday at Centennial Plaza downtown. The event will include caroling, hot cider, cookies, candy canes and Santa arriving by firetruck. At 5:30, Santa will be available for photos at Old Milltown.

Band to march in Seattle parade
Cascade High School’s marching band will be among those parading in Seattle the day after Thanksgiving. The school will participate in the Bon-Macy’s parade for the first time in 15 years, director Jim Johnson said. The band will have the 32nd slot in the parade lineup.
The parade will be televised live on KING TV at 9 a.m. Friday.
Lions to sell Christmas trees
The Oak Harbor Lions Club’s annual Christmas tree sale will be 9 a.m.-8 p.m. daily starting Saturday at the Chamber of Commerce office at 32630 Highway 20.
The sale, which will continue until all the trees have been sold, will support Lions programs including providing eyeglasses and exams, scholarships and a summer camp for disabled people.
Arts Commission to meet Dec. 8
The Arts Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at the City Hall annex, 1812 Main St. The commission canceled its November workshop because of Thanksgiving.
The commissioners conduct their regular public meeting on the second Wednesday of each month, and a workshop on the fourth Wednesday.
Cafe will serve homeless today
The Pine Cone Cafe is opening its doors today to feed the homeless. Serving time is 1-5 p.m. at the restaurant, 18925 Highway 99.
Dinners will be served free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis until the food runs out.
The turkeys are being donated by U.S. Foods, and the cafe will provide the mashed potatoes, vegetables, stuffing and pies.
Employees will volunteer their time.

A joint effort provides turkeys
The Lynnwood Firefighters Association, along with the Richmond Beach Rehabilitation and Specialty Care Center, has donated Thanksgiving turkeys to the Lynnwood Food Bank.
The firefighters, with support from other organizations, buy smoke detectors, provide college scholarships and participate in community programs. The Lynnwood Firefighters Association has installed more than 950 free smoke detectors in the past 10 years.

Lavender Farm opens for holidays
Lavender Hills Farm will be open for the holidays 10 a.m.-6 p.m. every Friday, Saturday and Sunday this week through Dec. 19. The public is welcome, and hot apple cider and treats will be offered.
The farm, at 7508 108th St. NE, grows more than 20 varieties of lavender and hosts a lavender festival each year, as well as classes in how to make and use lavender. It also hosts a gift shop where many handmade products by local artists are available.

City won’t raise property taxes
The city will not raise property taxes in 2005, the City Council decided Tuesday. The council also voted to approve continuation of the rate of 25 cents per $1,000 of assessed value for the city’s emergency medical services levy, which was reauthorized by a narrow margin on Nov. 2.

Karate students earn black belts
Mukilteo YMCA karate students Bernadette Gravelle, June Gravelle and Liam Yore recently traveled to Athens, Texas, to earn their first-degree black belts.
The YMCA’s karate instructor, Jay Gravelle, also tested for and received his fifth-degree black belt.
Testing included demonstrating knowledge of basic techniques, self-defense and katas (prearranged forms, both empty-handed and with weapons.

Forum on meth planned at library
The Stanwood Camano Community Resource Center is helping coordinate a community methamphetamine forum 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Stanwood Library, 9701 271st St. NW.
