Gardening tips offered Saturday

The Arlington Garden Club will continue its monthly “How to turn your thumb green” workshops from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Arlington Boys &Girls Club, 18513 59th Ave. NE.

Bea Randall, a master gardener and former city councilwoman, will teach about vegetable gardening, including what to do in the fall and winter, different types of beds, how to grow vegetables and how to start a new garden.

Edmonds

City hears about motor scooters

The Edmonds City Council will listen to public comments about motor scooters at its meeting Tuesday.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the City Council Chambers in the Public Safety Complex, 250 Fifth Ave. N.

No formal proposal is on the table, but the council could provide direction to city staff regarding a possible ordinance.

Everett

Jail and Bail set for Wednesday

Everett business and community leaders will be booked and thrown in jail as part of the March of Dimes Jail &Bail 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

The cash they raise in “bail” will support efforts to improve the health of babies and prevent infant mortality.

After their mock arrest, the jailbirds will be issued a striped inmate shirt and be temporarily placed behind bars at the Flying Pig Brewery.

While in jail, they must raise bail in the form of contributions from family, friends and co-workers.

Newcomers meet Thursday for meal

Everett Newcomers will meet for a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Gianni’s Italian Restaurant, 5030 Evergreen Way, Everett.

Sept. 11 vigil needs volunteers

St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church will conduct its third annual 24-hour Vigil for Peace in remembrance of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

The remembrance will begin with a celebration of holy communion at 9 p.m. Saturday at the church, 1318 Highway 532 on Camano Island. The public is invited.

The vigil’s organizers are looking for volunteers to lead the vigil each hour. Leaders will be provided with prayers for peace, a psalm, scripture readings and some thoughts for meditation, if they wish to use them. Some might choose to sing hymns, too.

Lake Stevens

Council to discuss NASCAR track

The City Council will discuss the proposed NASCAR race track facility in the north Marysville area and possible additional regulations for motorized scooters at its next meeting. Other agenda items include a Boys &Girls Club design review and fee waiver, the second-quarter financial report and urban transition needs.

The council will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at 1808 Main St.

Lynnwood

EdCC foundation offers golf tourney

The Edmonds Community College Foundation will have its 14th annual Edmonds Community College Foundation Golf Classic at noon Friday at Lynnwood Municipal Golf Course.

The tournament is a way to raise funds for the foundation, which provides scholarships for students and support and advocacy for the college.

Entry in the tournament costs $150 per golfer and includes 18 holes of golf, lunch, refreshments, a team photo, giveaways and a steak or salmon reception dinner. Tee times are limited. Call Cami Smith at 425-640-1344 or e-mail camismith@edcc.edu.

Marysville

Council plans executive session

The City Council’s first meeting since July will be preceded by an executive session expected to last about 30 minutes. The council plans to discuss pending litigation in the executive session.

The executive session will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, followed by the regular workshop meeting at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 1049 State Ave.

Mill Creek

Christian women meet for luncheon

The Edmonds-Mill Creek Christian Women’s Club will have a “Quick and Easy Snacks” luncheon 11:45 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Mill Creek Country Club, 15500 Country Club Drive.

Chef Leslie Lightner will provide recipes and demos. Author Becky Weber will provide special songs and speak on “New Dimensions of Living.”

Monroe

Rotary fund-raiser set for Saturday

The Rotary Club of Monroe will have a fund-raising event featuring a casino party and auction, called “Puttin’ on the Mitz,” 6:30-11 p.m. Saturday at Maltby Community Club, 8711, 206th St. SE.

The admission is $50 per person and includes playing chips, food and two drink coupons. The casino party includes blackjack, poker and roulette.

Mukilteo

Councilwoman resigns for move

Donna Lansberry has resigned from the Mukilteo City Council.

The City Council will consider the process to replace her at its meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fire Station 3, 10400 47th Pl. W.

Lansberry, first elected last year, resigned Aug. 31 because she is moving to Everett, she said.

Lansberry decided to downsize to help pay for her daughter to go to college, she said.

She is also planning to take college courses herself, she said.

Snohomish

Food bank gets $1,800 grant

Snohomish Community Food Bank will receive a $1,800 grant from Fred Meyer at 10 a.m. Tuesday at its building, 1360 Ferguson Park Road.

The food bank will use the money to make its food supply more diverse for different ethnic groups and to build a section for infants.

Design board meeting canceled

Stanwood

All-class reunion set for Sunday

This year’s all-class, all-schools high school reunion in Stanwood will be 1-4 p.m. Sunday at Twin City Elementary School 26211 72nd Ave. NW.

The reunion is open to anyone who attended Stanwood, Lincoln and Twin City high school classes through 1960. Spouses are welcome. Admission is $5 per person at the door.

Sultan

Club offers duck race Saturday

Sultan Sportsmen’s Club will have a fund-raising event Saturday to build its community center and clubhouse. The event will start at noon at the Sportsmen’s Park, located at the west end of the Sultan Bridge on U.S. 2.

At 2 p.m., there will be a duck race. The person who picks the first-place duck will receive $1,000; second place, $300; third place, $150; and fourth, $50.

The $5 tickets are available at businesses including Sultan Veterinary Clinic, Copple’s Chiropractic.
