Public meetings about river plan
The state Department of Ecology has scheduled two meetings to discuss a new plan to clean up the Stillaguamish River.
The plan includes a new rule for how the department will allocate water for future uses, because low stream flows concentrate water pollution.
The meeting will be 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Stillaguamish Valley Pioneer Museum, 20722 67th Ave. NE. An open house will be 5-7 p.m.

Edmonds
Meeting explores child ID program
A meeting to explore bringing a child identification program to Washington state will be at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Edmonds Masonic Center on Dayton Street near Fifth Avenue. The meeting is sponsored by the Free and Accepted Masons
The ID program, which uses DNA swabs, fingerprints and saliva to create child identity records, is used in 15 states.

Everett
Animal shelter plans open house
The Everett Animal Shelter will have an open house 11:30 a.m.- 3 p.m. Sunday at the shelter, 2732 36th St., as part of honor National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week.
The event will include tours, activities and refreshments. There also will be information on pet adoption, upcoming shelter events and volunteer activities. Shelter staff and veterinarians will be available to share their pet expertise.
The shelter has new hours, and is now open Sundays. The hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday.

Turkey, chocolate on group’s agenda
The Culinary Art Society meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Camano Senior and Community Center, 606 Arrowhead Road, Camano Island.
This month’s dishes are turkey entree, side dishes and Thanksgiving dessert.
Guests are welcome to join members in the tasting. The meal costs $5.
During judging, Vicki Dodge will present a demonstration called “Let’s Play With Chocolate.”
Lynnwood
District to get property report
A study of 10 pieces of Edmonds School District property available for potential development through long-term lease or sale has been completed.
An initial review of the study indicates the district would likely still need to seek voter-approved money to build new Lynnwood and Scriber Lake high schools and meet other building needs.
The Edmonds School Board studied the report Wednesday in an executive session. District leaders could make recommendations to the board by Dec. 7.
Areas included in the study were Alderwood Middle, the current and former educational service centers, Esperance, the Lynnwood maintenance and operation building, North Road property, the Scriber Lake High site, a warehouse and former Woodway Elementary School.
High school hosts bingo fund-raiser
Meadowdale High School is hosting a bingo fund-raiser 6:30-9:30 tonight at the school’s Great Hall, 6002 168th St. SW.
All-night playing cards are $5, pizza and pop will be sold, and prizes will be available. Funds will go to the Music Boosters Club for new equipment, music, and financial support to music students for workshops and competitions.

City’s fall cleanup due next week
The city’s annual fall cleanup will be Monday through Nov. 12.
City residents may place additional disposal items out with their trash on their normal pickup day.
While there will be no extra charge for most items such as yard waste, water heaters and stoves, there will be a fee for some large or bulky items including mattresses, couches, chairs and refrigerators. Pickup fees must be paid in advance today at City Hall, 806 W. Main St.

Mountlake Terrace
Dinner marks city’s 50th year
The city’s yearlong celebration of its 50th year of incorporation culminates at 6 p.m. Saturday with a sold-out celebration dinner at the Nile Golf and Country Club in Mountlake Terrace.
The year of celebration kicked off in December. Since then, the community has held a variety of concerts, historical exhibits, sports tournaments and other events to mark the anniversary.
All four surviving members from the original City Council are expected to attend the dinner and provide commentary about their recollections of the early years of Mountlake Terrace. The program will be highlighted by historical film, video, photo displays and commentary from prominent former and current city residents.

City schedules budget hearing
The Mukilteo City Council will hold another public hearing on the city’s proposed 2005 budget at 7 p.m. Monday at City Council chambers, 4480 Chennault Beach Road.

The Snohomish Garden Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Snohomish School District Administration building, 1601 Ave. D.

Rummage, bake sale with seniors
The Stanwood Senior Center’s Thrift Store will have a rummage and bake sale 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 7430 276th St. NW.
On Saturday only, soup and a half-sandwich will be sold for $3 in the social room.
