Council to discuss budget, tax hikes
The City Council will meet at 7 tonight at the Arlington Boys &Girls Club, 18513 59th Ave. NE.
On the agenda is adoption of the 2005 budget and rate increases for utility taxes.
The proposed ordinance would increase the utility tax rate for natural gas service from 4 percent to 6 percent, while telephone service taxes would increase from 5 percent to 6 percent.
Additional revenue from those tax hikes would be dedicated to street repair and maintenance.
Edmonds
Gardens sought for summer tour
The Edmonds in Bloom board is looking for seven to nine area residents who are willing to share their gardens during the annual Edmonds in Bloom event and garden tour in July.
Gardens can be colorful, unique, exotic, whimsical or serene, and can be anywhere within the city of Edmonds or town of Woodway.

City seeking block grant applications
The city is accepting applications for subgrant funding for the next round of community development block grants.
The city’s block grant program benefits low-income residents of Everett.
Applications are available in person or by mail at the City of Everett Department of Planning and Community Development, 2930 Wetmore Ave., Suite 8A, Everett, WA 98201.

Council won’t meet tonight
The City Council has canceled tonight’s regular workshop meeting because of the holidays. City officials will decide this week whether there will be a regular business meeting next week.
The council meets at 7 p.m. the first four Mondays of each month at 1808 Main St. The meetings are open to the public.

Stanwood
Police academy due in February
The Stanwood Police Department is preparing for its fifth annual Citizens Law Enforcement Academy.
The purpose of the academy is to give people an opportunity to learn and experience law enforcement from the inside. Participants will attend a 12-week course 6:30-9:30 p.m. every Wednesday starting Feb. 2 at the Church Creek campus library of Stanwood High School, 7600 272nd St. NW.
The class is free but space is limited to 30 adults. Youths ages 16 to 18 may attend with a parent or guardian.
