Arlington High School’s jazz singing group, Jazzmine, is performing a series of dinner shows the next two weekends as a fundraiser for a trip to perform at a Disney World festival in Orlando, Fla.
Proceeds also will go to cover travel expenses to vocal competitions.
Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and again March 5 and 6 at the high school, 18821 Crown Ridge Blvd. Show seating begins at 7:45 p.m.
Another dinner show will be at 2 p.m. March 7.
Admission is $15, and the show is two hours long. Tickets also can be purchased at the door for $10 for just the show.
Twenty cordless microphones purchased by the school district will allow the group to roam farther during performances.

Darrington
Air-quality officials coming to town
City officials have invited state regulators from the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency, the state Department of Ecology and the U.S. Forest Service to answer questions from the public about air quality.
The meeting will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Darrington Community Center, 570 Sauk Ave.
A proposal to build a new wood-waste-burning power plant near the Hampton Timber Mill has drawn questions about how the new smokestack would affect air quality in the mountain town. Residents will have a chance to ask officials directly about the plant and about any other air-quality concerns.

Police car leases on council agenda
The mayor is expected to sign a three-year lease for seven 2004 Ford Crown Victoria police cars for a total of $255,995.91 at the City Council meeting tonight.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in council chambers at the Public Safety Complex, 250 Fifth Ave. N.
Also, Todd Timmcke is expected to be named to the Arts Commission and Rita Bailey to the Sister City Commission. Discussion on those appointments will take place at 6:45 p.m. in a special meeting.
Artists workshop planned at EdCC
Edmonds artist d’Elaine Johnson, one of 12 artists with disabilities selected to attend an international arts festival this summer in Washington, D.C., will teach a hands-on studio workshop 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Edmonds Community College.
Participants in the "Women &Myth" workshop will explore Johnson’s art on a walking tour of campus, participate in drawing and writing exercises, and use supervised studio time to develop words and images to create personal myths.
Also, the public is invited to attend a reception with the artist 5-7 p.m. March 8 in the college’s Triton Union Building.

Assistance League receives $3,000
The PacifiCare Foundation has donated $3,000 to the Assistance League of Everett. The funds will be used to purchase new school clothes, warm winter coats, school supplies and other necessities for children living in poverty. Special session for elected officials
Following two special sessions today on Camano Island, the Island County commissioners have scheduled another special meeting at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the County Commissioners Hearing Room, annex building, 1 NE Sixth St., Coupeville.
The meeting will be a joint council of governments, including elected officials from Island County, Oak Harbor, Langley, Coupeville and port districts.
Topics will include rural economic development, possible restoration of an airfield at Monroe Landing (between Oak Harbor and Coupeville) for public use, and review of legislation and other topics.

Public hearing
on Master Plan
A public hearing on Master Plan approval of code amendments will take place at the Marysville Planning commission meeting tonight at 7 at City Hall.
Under new business on the agenda is the community process for the 2004 Comprehensive Plan Update.
Also on the agenda is a presentation on the business Web site and GIS system development. And information will be presented on impact fee revenues.
City to improve Strawberry Fields
The Strawberry Fields Athletic Park recently was awarded a $300,000 state grant.
The money will be used to add to the second phase of the 72-acre park’s development at 152nd Street NE.
The first phase, which added three soccer fields, parking improvements, drainage and fencing, was completed in October.
The second phase will install field lighting, restrooms and landscaping. HomeStreet Bank of Marysville has contributed money to build a picnic shelter. Improvements should be completed by end of summer.
The third phase will provide up to five additional fields, parking, drainage and trails. Money for the third phase is not available yet.

Chamber helps celebrate opening

Meth seminar
at library tonight
The Snohomish Library and the Snohomish Drug and Alcohol Committee will host a free seminar on methamphetamine at 6:30 tonight at the library, 311 Maple Ave.
Ross Wigney, president of Ausclean Technologies, Inc., a state-certified drug lab cleanup contractor, will lead the presentation, which will include how to recognize and identify meth use in town, how meth is made and how theft and burglary associated with meth users affect the community.

City Council has new member
The City Council appointed Dianne White to fill Herb Kuhnly’s position on the council.
Kuhnly’s spot opened Jan. 1 when he stepped up to take the mayor’s role for Matt McCune, who resigned.
White had been on the city’s planning commission since 2003. A self-described "semi-retired" pharmacist, White was raised in Stanwood, graduating from high school here. She lived in Tacoma and Eastern Washington until 2001, when she and her husband moved back to help care for elderly parents.
She was president of the state Pharmacy Association from 2000 to 2001.
Council workshop about City Hall
The City Council has scheduled a workshop at 7 tonight at City Hall, 10220 270th St. NW.
The National Development Council is going to give a presentation about various funding options for developing City Hall.
The idea was first suggested as part of Design Stanwood’s recommendations for how to spruce up and market the city’s downtown sectors. Some ideas include combining a city hall building with another agency, such as the library.
The workshop also will help with suggestions about how to pay for such an endeavor.
