The Arlington Library plans to host a Captain Underpants party at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The “extra-crunchy, 100 percent cottony” event celebrates Dav Pilkey’s famous superhero.

Riverside weighs historic district
The Riverside Neighborhood Association is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at North Middle School Library, 2514 Rainier Avenue.
Special guests Steve Fox and Glen Hunter are scheduled to give a presentation on efforts to create a historic overlay zone, similar to the Rucker-Grand and Grand-Norton historic districts.

Recycle old computers
People who want to get rid of their old computers can bring them to a computer recycling event on May 12 at McCollum Park, 600128th St. SE, Everett.
Volunteers from Adopt-A-Stream, Interconnections and Snohomish County Parks and Recreation will fill two moving vans with old computers. A fee will be charged.
The cost to recycle a computer older than five years is $5, all monitors and laptops are $10, prints and scanners under 15 pounds are $5 and a $25 recycle fee for TVs up to 27 inches will be charged. The fees will be used to properly dispose the hazardous waste.

The Mount Baker Council plans to host a “Cub Scout Fun Day” for elementary school and kindergarten boys and their parents who want to learn more about Scouting.

Cable programs are meeting topic
The public is invited to an open house on Wednesday to share ideas for programming on the city’s government and educational cable TV stations.
The meeting is scheduled for 3 to 4 p.m. at City Hall, 1049 State Ave.
The Marysville Cable Television Advisory Committee, a group of residents and city and Marysville School District officials, is seeking input to develop programming for the city’s two operating access channels – Government Access Channel 21 and Educational Access Channel 26.
The latter is run by designated access provider Marysville-Pilchuck High School’s video production program.

New City Council member sought
The city is looking for a new interim City Council member.
Those who are interested must send an application letter by May 17 to Betty King, the city of Monroe, 806 W. Main St., Monroe WA 98272. Qualified applicants will be invited to an interview with the City Council.
The new council member will replace former City Councilman Ken Berger, who recently resigned after recall campaign was threatened.
The City Council normally holds two regular meetings and two work sessions each month on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m.

Free smoke alarms offered
In observance of Building Safety Week, the city of Monroe and Monroe Fire District 3 plan to offer each household a free smoke alarm to improve building safety in the community.
During the week of May 6-12, building departments nationwide celebrate Building Safety Week by raising public safety awareness.
The smoke alarms and a $10 coupon towards a home fire extinguisher will be available today through May 11 at Fire Station 31, 163 Village Court and Monroe City Hall, 806 W. Main St.

Free car checkup for single moms
Clearview Foursquare Church plans to host a free Single Moms Car Care event from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at 17210 Highway 9, Snohomish.
The event, a semi-annual community service project by the church, also includes activities for kids, spa treatments and haircuts for mothers, a breakfast or lunch buffet and a free family photo.
Car work includes an oil and filter change, tire and fluids check and car wash and vacuum.
