Everett

City grants available for nonprofits filling needs

Everett is accepting applications now through Sept. 26 for its annual “human needs” grants.

To be eligible for grant funds, organizations must be tax-exempt, nonprofit agencies that provide services in Everett to city residents.

Organizations interested in applying can pick up an application at Suite 10-A of the Wall Street Building, 2930 Wetmore Ave., Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Request the application electronically by e-mailing cmcgourty@ci.everett.wa.us; or request a mailed application by calling 425-257-8758.

Granite Falls

Planning commission to consider licenses

The Granite Falls Planning Commission at its meeting tonight is expected to consider license applications for two new businesses and another for a business relocation.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at City Hall, 206 S. Granite Ave.

Rite Aid and Gipson Custom Rod &Gun have applied for business licenses. Pharm-A-Save has applied for a license to operate in a new location.

The planning commission is an advisory panel to the City Council.

Marysville

Coaches are sought for youth basketball

The Marysville Parks Department is seeking coaches for its youth basketball league for kids in first through eighth grades.

Practices begin the first week of December and the league runs through March. The program focuses on developing fundamentals, teamwork and good sportsmanship.

Volunteer packets are available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at the Marysville Parks and Recreation Office, in Jennings Memorial Park at 6915 Armar Road.

Monroe

Event to raise money for Special Olympics

The Monroe Police Department is teaming up with Thrive Community Fitness to participate in Cycling for Special Olympics from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sept. 6 at 118 N. Lewis St., Suite 104, in Monroe.

The event aims to raise money for Special Olympics. The police department has supported for years the event, which is mainly for athletes with disabilities.

Snohomish County

Free DVD offers an introduction to transit

Community Transit continues to give away free copies of a DVD, “How to Ride: An Introduction to Community Transit,” to educate people how to take a bus. The 11-minute DVD provides information in English, Spanish, Korean and Russian.

The DVD is available at www.communitytransit.org. It can be checked out at all Sno-Isle libraries. Free copies of the DVD also will be available at the Ethnic Elder Fair on Sept. 6 at the Lynnwood Convention Center.
