Everett: Symphony plays “Night Before New Year’s Eve”
Everett Symphony’s 13th annual “Night Before New Year’s Eve” celebration is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Everett Performing Arts Center, 2710 Wetmore Ave.
Veteran Seattle sportscaster Tony Ventrella is the master of ceremonies for the event that kicks off with a reception with hors d’oeuvres and champagne.

Lake Stevens: Panel reviews appointment
The Lake Stevens Civil Service Commission is scheduled at its meeting Jan. 3 to consider extending the term of a temporary police officer.
The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Lake Stevens City Hall Annex, 1812 Main St.
The commission also is scheduled to elect its two leadership positions for 2008.
The Civil Service Commission adopts rules and regulations for hiring police officers and hears appeals regarding disciplinary actions.

Mukilteo: Practice English skills at library class
Adults who are learning to speak English as a second language can practice their skills at an event planned for the Mukilteo Library.
The event is scheduled for 7 p.m. Jan. 7 at the library at 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd.
The event is being repeated at 7 p.m. Jan. 14 and Jan. 28.
Volunteers with the Snohomish County Literacy Coalition are expected to be on hand to assist people during the event.

Snohomish: Seniors can get tips on memoirs
Senior citizens are encouraged to participate in a four-week Memory Writing Session from 10 to 11 a.m. on Fridays in January at the Snohomish Senior Center, 1514 Pine Ave.
The free workshop helps people write their life story. Group leader Cindy Crossman will help people get started and bring the supplies.
