Everett: City invites leaders to summit
Young people from across the state will get a chance to meet elected officials and business leaders at the second annual Washington State Youth Leadership Summit next month.
The summit for students 14 to 18 years old will feature expert speakers, break-out sessions and a luncheon featuring roundtable discussions.
Scheduled speakers include Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson, Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon, The Herald’s city editor Robert Frank, Everett City Council President Brenda Stonecipher and Marysville Youth Action Network founder Jim Strickland.
The Summit is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 17 in the Weyerhaeuser Room at the Everett Station, 3201 Smith Ave. Registration is $10.

Lake Stevens: Coats available for families
The Lake Stevens Family Center has gently used winter coats available to people in need at no cost.
The donated coats come in all sizes and colors. The center, at 1803 123rd Ave. NE, is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Mukilteo: Public hearing for budget
Weigh in on the city of Mukilteo’s preliminary 2008 budget at a public hearing planned for early next month.
The hearing is planned during the City Council meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Nov. 5 at City Hall, 4480 Chennault Beach Road.
Mukilteo Mayor Joe Marine introduced the city’s new $31.3 million spending plan earlier this month.
People who can’t attend the public hearing can drop off comments at City Hall until 4:30 p.m. Nov. 5. The budget can be viewed at City Hall or at the Mukilteo Library.

Snohomish: Sports court gets a facelift
The City Council on Oct. 16 accepted a $38,010 contract to improve the surface of the tennis and basketball court at Pilchuck Park.
The court’s surface had deteriorated over the years and needed a facelift. The project included installing a drainage system and was completed on Sept. 15 by Advanced Construction, Inc., of Mukilteo.
