Everett: Martin Luther King’s legacy to be honored
Snohomish County will celebrate the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy with a day of free events Jan. 16, culminating with a speech by one of the nation’s leading civil rights authorities.
Julian Bond, chairman of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the largest and oldest civil rights group in the United States, is scheduled to give a speech at 1 p.m. at the Hansen Conference Center, 2000 Hewitt Ave.
Bond, a distinguished professor at American University in Washington, D.C., and a professor in history at the University of Virginia, has been on the cutting edge of social change since 1960.
Below is a schedule of planned free events:
7 to 8:30 a.m.: Diversity breakfast at the Holiday Inn, 3105 Pine. St. Space is limited. RSVP to Kate Reardon, kreardon@ci.everett.wa.us or 425-257-8687.
10:30 a.m.: Rally and march at Snohomish County Plaza, 3000 Wall St. March to Hansen Conference Center begins at 11 a.m.
Noon to 1 p.m.: Community Celebration featuring Julian Bond at the Hansen Conference Center.

Snohomish: Senior Center holds membership fair
The Snohomish Senior Center has scheduled a membership fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Jan. 19 to showcase the 45 programs and services offered at the center.
Most of the center’s activity groups will have an information table at the membership fair. There also will be refreshments and entertainment. The center is temporarily located at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1514 Pine Ave.
Anyone, of any age, can participate in programs at the center, although they must be at least 50 years old to vote on the center’s issues.
