Everett: Gov. Gregoire picks Julie Peddy for panel

Julie Peddy of Everett was appointed by Gov. Chris Gregoire to serve a two-year term on the Governor’s Committee on Disability Issues and Employment.

Peddy is program manager and administrative officer for the Northwest Fisheries Science Center.

She is vice president of Employer and Educational Partnerships and a member of Snohomish County Ethics Commission, Northwest Career Educators and Employers Association, and Western Washington University Career Service Center advisory committee.

Bidding to begin on new Everett Animal Shelter

CNJA Architects of Everett have completed designs and specifications for a new shelter to house stray, abandoned and dangerous pets.

The Everett City Council is scheduled to make plans for the building on Smith Island available to bidders on Jan. 22.

The new shelter is expected to cost more than $2 million and be completed by March 2009.

The existing decade-old animal shelter southeast of downtown on 36th Street stands in the way of an expansive commercial and retail development between I-5 and the Snohomish River that Everett officials plan to have built.

Lake Stevens: City Council to elect officers

The Lake Stevens City Council is scheduled to elect a council president and a vice president tonight.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Lake Stevens School District Educational Services Center, 12309 22nd Street NE.

The council president sets the agenda for meetings and runs the meetings in the mayor’s absence. The vice president serves as a backup to the president.

Two new councilmen, Mark Somers and John Spencer, were elected in November. Two other recent council appointees, Suzanne Quigley and Kathy Holder, were elected to their positions.

The other council members are Heather Coleman, who served as council president last year, Tom Hartwell and Neal Dooley.

Mukilteo: Man named to state oil spill committee

A Mukilteo man has been appointed to a state committee that works to prevent and prepare for oil spills.

Michael Moore, vice president of the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association, is scheduled to serve on the state Oil Spill Advisory Council through Aug. 2, 2011.

Moore retired as a Coast Guard captain in 2002. He has led several marine safety, security and environmental protection initiatives.

Snohomish: Art gallery features exhibition

Arts of Snohomish Gallery presents “The Black &White Show” this month. The gallery is at 105 Cedar Ave.

The exhibition features more than 25 pieces of art in black, white and shades of gray. The gallery members chose this theme to celebrate the grays of winter.
