Mukilteo: Council votes on priorities

Raising money for the new ferry terminal, continuing with renovations at Lighthouse Park and completing the land transfer of the old Air Force tank farm property are among the City Council’s top priorities for this year.

The City Council is scheduled to vote on its list of federal legislative priorities during its meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. today at City Hall, 4480 Chennault Beach Road.

Council members have already approved a list of state legislative priorities for 2008. That list includes funding work at the Rosehill Community Center site, acquiring open space and studying affordable housing initiatives.

Everett: County still looks at flood studies

The Snohomish County Council has scheduled a public hearing on Jan. 30 on whether to spend more money on flood plain studies that would explore ways to allow further development in the Snohomish River Valley.

The hearing is 10:30 a.m. in the county’s east administration building, 3000 Rockefeller Ave., Everett.

The issue has piqued interest among Snohomish residents and business people.

Some Snohomish residents want the county to stop spending taxpayer money on the process, which they say could allow Harvey Field, a private airport in the valley, to expand. Further development in the flood plain would likely increase damage when floods occur, they say.

Business owners in the valley are urging the council to finish the studies. Current flood plain regulations give business owners in the valley little leeway to expand their businesses, they say.
