Everett: Parks meeting on Tuesday

The Everett Parks Commission is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Spruce Hall in Forest Park, 802 E. Mukilteo Blvd.

The commission is set to talk about the parks marketing plan, improvements to Bayside Park and the dredging of Silver Lake. Parks director Paul Kaftanski will also talk about the parks strategic plan.

Elks looking for basketball whiz kids

Everett Elks Lodge No. 479 is scheduled to hold its 34th annual Hoop Shoot event beginning at 6 p.m. Jan. 21 at Everett High School gymnasium, 2416 Wetmore Ave.

The national free throw shooting contest is open for students ages 8 to 13.

Winners compete against other contestants in the district event in Mount Vernon on Jan. 26.

The boy and the girl in each age group with the best scores will have a chance to advance through four tiers of competition to qualify for the national finals in Springfield, Mass.

Mukilteo: YMCA sets reopening party

Celebrate the grand reopening of the Mukilteo Family YMCA at a party planned for later this week.

The daylong celebration is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the YMCA at 10601 47th Place W. in Mukilteo.

The center recently underwent an expansion to increase the space available for programs and activities.

Snohomish: Hamlin selected as mayor

The City Council on Wednesday selected Randy Hamlin as the city’s mayor and Lynn Schilaty as mayor pro-tem.

In Snohomish, one of the seven council members serves as mayor.

Hamlin has been mayor since January 2006 and will continue to serve the role for the next two years.

Schilaty was elected to the council for the first time in November.
