Everett: Artspace, city still in lease talks

After a year of negotiations, one of the nation’s top builders of arts districts and the city of Everett haven’t reached a 100-year land-lease agreement for a downtown property.

Minneapolis-based Artspace seeks to transform the city-owned parking garage at 2919 Hoyt Ave. into a five-story building with 40 affordable apartments and a ground floor art center.

The nonprofit signed an exclusive negotiating contract with Everett to redevelop the public parking garage last year; talks were set to expire Oct. 10. Both sides say they are negotiating in good faith but need more time to reach an agreement. The Everett City Council last week extended negotiations for another year.

Lake Stevens: Help for military families

The city of Lake Stevens and the Greater Lake Stevens Chamber of Commerce each recently approved a resolution to support a campaign to help families of military personnel find employment.

The Military Family Friendly Employment Partnership Initiative was launched earlier this month by the Greater Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce. The effort involves enlisting local governments, colleges, chambers of commerce and others to get the word out to businesses about the benefits of hiring military spouses.

Both the city and the chamber approved their resolutions last week.
