Everett: NAACP leader to honor MLK
NAACP Chairman Julian Bond is scheduled to speak Wednesday at noon as part of Snohomish County’s Martin Luther King Jr. celebration.
Bond’s speech at the Hansen Conference Center, 2000 Hewitt Ave., follows a half-day of free events.

Public can shape downtown study
The Everett Planning Department is planning an open house on downtown environmental review at 5:30 p.m. today at Everett Station’s Weyerhaeuser Room, 3201 Smith Ave.
People are being asked to share their concerns about likely environmental impacts of future downtown development for an environmental impact statement being prepared for the downtown area.

Lake Stevens: Board to discuss study
The Lake Stevens Planning Commission is scheduled on Wednesday to discuss a possible study of land use, roads, parks and retail centers for an area southwest of the city. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Community-Senior Center, 1808 Main St. The area reaches to Highway 9 and U.S. 2. The city is asking Snohomish County to include the area in its potential annexation area.

Snohomish: Hearing on sign law planned
The City Council is set to have a public hearing on a proposed amendment to the city’s sign ordinance at 7 p.m. today in the School Administration Center, 1601 Ave. D. The change would only apply to commercial properties bigger than 30 acres. The amendment would allow a second 18-foot-high freestanding sign along a street if a commercial property has more than one driveway on the street and if the two freestanding signs are separated by at least 500 feet.
