Arlington: Water work to close street
Fifth Street is scheduled to be closed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today between Gifford and Washington avenues while utility crews work on the water system. A detour route is scheduled to be posted.
On Thursday, N. Gifford Avenue is scheduled to close from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. between Fifth Street and the Arlington School District property while utility crews work on the water system.
Granite Falls: Hear tales of the fur trade
Stories about the fur trade in the Pacific Northwest in the 1800s are the subject of a program tonight at the Granite Falls Library.
The event is scheduled for 4 to 5 p.m. at the library, 815 E. Galena St.
“Back to the Fur Trade” focuses on the cast of diverse characters from the pioneer era, who included Europeans, Native Americans, Hawaiians and American settlers. Songs, tales, tools and other treasures are planned. The program is for all ages.

Marysville: Holiday giving program starts
Families in need may now register for Operation Marysville Community Christmas, in which food baskets and toys are distributed for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Run by a group of volunteers from the Marysville Community Food Bank, the program is in its 22nd year.
Recipients may register from 8 to 11 a.m. Monday and Tuesday and Thursday through Saturday at the food bank, 6518 60th Drive NE, directly north of the Marysville-North County YMCA.
Volunteers are needed. Beginning Nov. 3, red giving barrels will be in place at more than 50 locations around town.
